4.0 out of 5 stars A basslegend looks back, Sep 29 2009
By Bodhi Heeren - Published on Amazon.com

The discreet yet always inventive and funky bassplaying by Klaus Voormann has graced so many classic rock albums, most notably George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" and "Living In The Material World". As well as the two first solo-albums from John Lennon, especially on the "Plastic Ono band" where Voormann's rock solid bass fits perfectly with Ringo Starr's primordial drums.

Here is a relaxed and laid back effort to commemorate his many years in the music business bringing together old friends like Dr. John, bonnie Bramlett,Paul McCartney, Ringo, Joe Walsh in a set of mostly rock 'standards'. Good fun very much in the vein of Ringo & His All Star Band.

The artistic highlights no doubt Yusef Islam (Cat Stevens)'s heartfelt renditions of Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" and "The Day The World Gets 'Round"where we enter quite another dimension.

Part of the proceedings go to charity.

Klaus Voorman played bass on so many brilliant, essential albums. All Things Must Pass, Living In The Material World, The Concert for Bangla Desh, Ringo, Plastic Ono Band, Imagine. Lots of others. His playing with Manfred Mann. I have been waiting for DECADES to hear what he would do with his own album. He has enlisted help from his friends from all these great albums, and the result is a fun, great sounding journey through the past. Thank you, Klaus (and friends) for an album that like "Ringo" back in 1973 made me smile from beginning to end.

A Sideman's Journey by Voormann & Friends is to me a great way of paying tribute to one of the best sidemen of all-time. For a Beatles' completist, it is a must have cd.
