Product Description

Review

“Signature in the Cell is a defining work in the discussion of life’s origins . . . the powerful case Meyer presents cannot be ignored in any honest debate. . . [T]his book is an engaging, eye-opening, and often eye-popping read” (American Spectator )

Product Description

One hundred fifty years ago, Charles Darwin revolutionized biology, but did he refute intelligent design (ID)? In Signature in the Cell, Stephen Meyer argues that he did not.

Much confusion surrounds the theory of intelligent design. Frequently misrepresented by the media, politicians, and local school boards, intelligent design can be defended on purely scientific grounds in accordance with the same rigorous methods that apply to every proposed origin-of-life theory.

Signature in the Cell is the first book to make a comprehensive case for intelligent design based upon DNA. Meyer embarks on an odyssey of discovery as he investigates current evolutionary theories and the evidence that ultimately led him to affirm intelligent design. Clearly defining what ID is and is not, Meyer shows that the argument for intelligent design is not based on ignorance or "giving up on science," but instead upon our growing scientific knowledge of the information stored in the cell.

A leading proponent of intelligent design in the scientific community, Meyer presents a compelling case that will generate heated debate, command attention, and find new adherents from leading scientists around the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book of the Year, Dec 18 2009

To have a clearer idea of the content of this book, I strongly recommend reading the impartial article of Thomas Nagel in The Times Literaty Supplement of November 27, 2009, who has chosen this book as one of his two best books of the year. Quoting Nagel about the subject of this book: "(it) is a detailed account of the problem of how life came into existence from lifeless matter...before the process of biological evolution could begin."

1.0 out of 5 stars Molecular Genetics - Coming Soon, Dec 18 2009
By mcewin "mac" (St. John's, NF Canada) - See all my reviews
Stephen Meyer is a major player in the religious field of Intelligent Design Creationism, and a non-participant in the world of Science. Here we have the entire fields of molecular biology and genetics reduced to an appeal to ignorance - that which I do not understand or believe is not true. What is insidious here, as in Daniel Behe's books, is that the massive body of evidence for evolution in the molecular record as produced by thousands of scientists is miss-presented as though it makes a case for the opposite, just on Meyer's say-so. Meyer himself offers no original experiments, advances no scientific research program, and operates completely outside science by appeals to popular prejudice. Intelligent Design Creationism proponents pretend it isn't religion: their supporters know better, as witness the positive reviews here.

Amazon would be better off reclassifying this under Religion, where it belongs.

PS. Thank the reviewers who save you from the Lake of Meyer.

1.0 out of 5 stars No science here., Dec 17 2009

Useless. Once big argument from ignorance. Just because we don't know doesn't mean we'll never find out. No need for the magical sky fairies.
