From Amazon.com

The Silver Palate, a small but notable New York eatery, won several national awards and distributed their packaged goods to fine food stores across the country. Owners Julee Rosso & Sheila Lukins wrote The Silver Palate Cookbook so that lovers of their chunky apple cake with cider glaze or their fruit-stuffed Cornish hens can re-create these dishes at home. In addition to a lively collection of recipes that are suitable for both entertaining and everyday, there are valuable menu and serving suggestions, literary quotes, food guides, food lore and whimsical illustrations by Ms. Lukins. The book won the 1991 James Beard Cookbook Award. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too froufrou for me!, July 17 1998
By A Customer
I found this cookbook to be lacking in the warmthness that epitomizes home-cooking. Its recipes were too restaurant style. Im sorry I bought the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing beats it!, Aug 7 2011
This review is from: The Silver Palate Cookbook: Delicious Recipes, Menus, Tips, Lore From Manhattan's Celebrated Gourmet Food Shop. (Paperback)
Cookbooks come in and out of style just like styles of cooking come in and out of fashion. What makes The Silver Palate (and its sister cookbook The New Basics)so good is that the authors give you new ways of preparing staple foods without slipping into anything too clever. I can't tell you how many times I have been served The Silver Palate's sweet and tart Chicken Marbella when I've been invited out for dinner because the cooks know it's so damn good, easy and going to win them rave reviews. The cookbook authors teach you, inspire you and open your palate while giving you delicious recipes for pastas, apps, salads, chicken and seafood that you'll want to make over and over. This cookbook could easily become your go-to cookbook for just about everything, including the best Blood Mary Caesar around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great recipes, Feb 13 2011
I just love this cook book. The carrot cake is awesome! I made it for the nurses I work with and also made it for my husbands coworkers, I received rave reviews on the cake. They all loved it and said it tasted like a professional cake maker! I am looking forward to my next adventure with this cook book! great buy!
