Product Description

Long before the age of man, the land was ruled by two warring species: the birds and the beasts. Bats, belonging to both sides but neither, refused to take up arms. The battle was long and fierce, and at its conclusion a great treaty was forged... A treaty which banished the bats from the light of day, as punishment for their lack of alliance.

Thousands of years later, a young bat by the name of Shade Silverwing has broken that treaty, invoking the wrath of power-hungry owls who banish his colony and scatter his family. Now, with the help of a few close friends, Shade must discover his true strength to overcome enemies both powerful and cruel to save the Silverwings from extinction. Come take flight alongside Shade and join the fight to bring justice back to the animal kingdom.

13 episodes, 280 minutes

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent series! July 9 2007
By Starbat
I watched the show when it was on TV. I knew I had to watch it after reading the books. At first, I personally felt that the television story failed to do the book justice. However, I have mellowed on that opinion after watching the series again on DVD. The animation is beautiful and the story truly stands on its own! The show's plot is left a bit open at the end, allowing for a possible continuation. However, tragically, the funding has been cut. Support this show! I certainly don't regret buying my copy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Silverwing was an amazing series! March 27 2007
I came to hear of Silverwing through the amazing books, so naturally when I found out that there was an animated series, I *had* to track it down. I successfully found myself a bootlegged copy of all the episodes, and was beyond impressed with the show. The characters are wonderfully drawn, and the backgrounds are lovely to look at (the character animation itself lacks at times...). The TV series deviates greatly from the books, but this is not a bad thing. It's just... different. It becomes a whole new story after a few episodes, and is a delight to watch. I was beyond disappointed when Silverwing lost its funding. Buy this DVD! I know I will (gotta support the show officially!).

5.0 out of 5 stars A Unique Series April 3 2008
Being a huge fan of the series of books, I had pretty low expectations for the TV show, and although it could've been more faithful to the book, I was pleasantly surprised. With it's unique animation style and characters (who's ever seen a cartoon about bats before?), I would reccomend this book to animation lovers and (non-purist) fans of the novels.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun to watch Oct. 23 2007

This animated series is based on the first book in the Silverwing Saga.
The animators have done lots of changes of the story, but there are still many elements from the book. I liked the character designs.
The book is of course better, but this series is very interesting and fun to watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars A magnificent cartoon May 8 2009

I applaud the makers of this show. Expertly crafted, based on a brilliant book, and best of all it doesn't go out of its way to be a "children's show". The characters are complex and given what they're routinely put through every episode, you really feel for them throughout the series. Even an adult like me found Silverwing to be extremely enjoyable. The animation is great, the music is spectacular (especially for a cartoon), and the chase sequences (of which there are plenty) are truly thrilling. It does have quite a few dark moments, but they don't dominate the show; they actually make the high points that much more rewarding, and that's something I feel is sorely lacking in a lot of cartoons out there. It reminds me a lot of Sonic The Hedgehog - The Complete Series in that regard.
It follows its source material pretty well; much of what's found in the book is seen in the series, but the series takes it further by adding more to the story. Here we see what goes on among other characters besides Shade and Marina; we see how the rest of the Silverwing colony braves the long journey to Hibernaculum, as well as how Goth and Throbb have been affecting the rest of the animal kingdom, and there are some good side-stories woven in there.
I do think it's a shame the series didn't return for a second season, but there's some good closure to the show and I'm glad it got to make its run on TV.
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why this T.V. series is great Aug. 18 2013

When I little, they had this show on Disney Channel and I got up early every morning to record it before going to school. I was so excited to have finally found this show after searching for it for a long time. This is an excellent retelling of the book by Kenneth Oppel. Very rarely do you see T.V. shows or movies that are based on books that matches almost exactly everything to the book. I will say that as much as I loved the book and will probably re-read it in the future, the show was better. I would definitely recommend it to those who love this type of animation cartoons and they should check it out for their own viewing pleasure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sliverwing Oct. 2 2012

Not a lot of people remember this series and thats a shame. It was on TV a few years ago my younger sister and I really got into it. It has a different plot than other shows out at the time. It centers around bats. The story line is, before the laws of nature the birds and the beasts raged war for control. The bats chose not to choose sides. Therefore, after the war they were banished to only fly at night, never to see the sun again. That is until Shade Silverwing did on a dare. From there many unexpected events occur. Cannibal bats, taken by humans for study escape and start killing birds, and the owl's leader, Brutus, is in charge of keeping the law and declares war on the Silverwings, thinking they have decided to go rouge. Shade knows the truth, but Brutus refuses to believe a law breaker and it turns into a race to uncover the truth and stop the pending massacre.
