Product Description

Review

Use this book not so much for hand knitting, but as inspiration for giving a modern look to classics. The 19 designs have interesting details, good colour combinations and silhouettes. The idea is to take a break from knitting fussy garments with complicated techniques, but almost all of the designs can be adapted for machine knitting. Projects range from pullovers, cardigans, vests, skirts and wraps - all using simple design for maximum impact. Use innovative edgings, a well-placed band of colour or texture, an unexpected yarn, or creative construction that minimizes seams or maximises personal fit. Simple Style is packed with clever design ideas. All a knitter needs is a basic understanding of knitting techniques.-Machine Knitting Monthly

3.0 out of 5 stars Simple techniques yes, traditional design maybe not so much..., Aug 8 2009

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Pay attention to the sub-title: 19 innovative to tradtional designs with simple knitting techniques.

Innovation is what the book is about, innovation in using the simple techniques that is. The emphasis is on creating shaping with very little fuss. And that in itself is a wonderful idea.

What my problem is with this book is that 1) I thought I was buying a book of simple designs. As in "basics". A few patterns might qualify, but most of them won't make it long past the current knitting craze. 2) I (and you should realize this is a highly personal point) didn't really like the designs. Had all of these been sheet patterns I probably wouldn't have bought any of them.

Still, the design on the cover is the ugliest of them, so do judge the book by the cover, only in a positive way.

By Snow Queen "Loonatic" (Michigan, United States) - See all my reviews
Simple Style: 19 Innovative to Traditional Designs with Simple Knitting Techniques Good, simple, with clean lines, these items to knit look like fun. Photography is good also. The directions are easy to follow and the items look good. I haven't had the opportunity to knit any up yet but anticipate starting soon.
