Product Description

From Amazon.com

A lot of house albums run out of steam before they're half over, but that's not the case with Ian Pooley's pleasingly varied Since Then. In fact, the disc's first few tracks aren't house music at all. The opener, "Coracao Tambor (intro)," features driving Brazilian percussion, a throbbing keyboard, and lovely acoustic guitar flourishes, while "Venesque" is a slice of fun-filled funk. It's not until the fifth track, "Coracao Tambor," featuring Rosanna and Zelia on vocals, that the steady pulse of house, layered with Brazilian rhythms, kicks in. "Balmes" is propelled in part by an insistent finger-picked acoustic guitar pattern, while "Visions" sports a bright, sunny pop melody sung by Kirsty Hawkshaw. The CD closes on a dreamy note with "Cloud Pattern," whose acoustic piano parts hint at minimalism but are buoyed by distant drums. Since Then's range of material is well ordered and paced; rather than being just a collection of tracks, the disc is a cohesive dance album, and a fine one at that. --Fred Cisterna

Latin/Brazilian flavored house at its best May 6 2004
Format:Audio CD
I got turned on to Ian Pooley at a club in Germany back in 2000. I picked up this cd on the strength of Coracao Tambor & MAN! In 4 years, it's still in constant rotation in my 100cd changer. Latin and Brazilian flavor with house beats dropping is one of the best combinations in house music. This cd is great for cruising at the beach, at home by the pool, and even if you have a party during the summer - spin this and you'll get bodies movin'!

I'VE BEEN HOOKED "SINCE THEN"!!! Dec 17 2003
Format:Audio CD
I picked up Ian Pooley's "Since Then" on one of my "compulsive browses" through the record store. GREAT FIND!!! "Since Then" had me hooked from beginning to end with its mix of ethnic rhythms, witty samples, sassy vocals and house grooves. Pooley has taken the old standard house beat and layered it with live instruments and other goodies. There's even an interview with him towards the end of the CD which gives us a better understanding of the man. Note to record companies: instead of putting those frivolous "hidden tracks" on CDs, do an interview with the artist instead.

True, Ian Pooley serves up some infectious beats here. The Latin take is great (and is way snappier than your usual Thievery Corp lounge). Read more
