We're Rised In a Mechanical World After All,
By BLee "bpslee" (HK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Clar Cto/Sinfonia Concertante (Audio CD)
Very brilliant performance. And very accurate in terms of the written notes too, and her tone is so dark especially in the bass. Her tone is neverthelss more sweet than bitter. Outstanding her tone might be, her interpretation of Mozart ( and even her personal statement) is not equally strong though. Her tempi are so very precise, very much so in the modern trend. More seasoned audience may, however, prefer Carl Leister. His tone may not be that bright, but it mixes perfectly well the other woodwinds and the orchestra as a whole. And like many musicians of the older generation, be it Dohnanyi (composer/pianist), or Rachmaninoff, or Bartok, or Backhaus, their tempi are never that rigid, and their scales never that even, but they are full of live, so vivid and so effective. So, when Carl comes to the second movement, like these great muscians of the past, his sweet-bitter tone is apt to break your heart...

No better or worse than the regular clarinet,

This review is from: Clar Cto/Sinfonia Concertante (Audio CD)
I may be a dummy, but I didn't hear much difference between the instrument on this one and the regular clarinet. I have no problem with this CD, it's excellent, but I feel as if the slow movement of the Clarinet Concerto could have broken my heart a bit more.

Excellent recording of Mozart's best,
This review is from: Clar Cto/Sinfonia Concertante (Audio CD)
This recording of the Clarinet concerto is about as close to perfect as you're gonna get. It's also one of the 1st versions since Mozart's time to use the basset clarinet (which is the instrument Mozart wrote the piece for), as opposed to the modern clarinet that's used in most other high-quality recordings. If you don't know the song, then you're in for a treat, as this is one of Mozart's most mature & moving pieces (and my personal favorite), and one of his last compositions. The Sinfonia concertante is also an excellent version of one of Mozart's more "lightweight" works, so you really can't go wrong with this CD.
