Singable Songs for the Very Young was originally released in 1976. I was born two years after that, and this album (cassette tape actually) was a staple in my family. I can remember my younger sisters and I belting out "Must be Santa" or "Mr Sun." in the back of the car on long trips.
We also had the record for "Corner Grocery Store" and I can clearly remember dancing around the living room and singing along with my sisters to the silly songs on that album.
Wanting to share these songs with my own children, I got Singable Songs for my two year old son. As it turns out, he loves the songs too and we have a lot of fun together singing and dancing. His favourite song is "Bumping Up and Down in my Little Red Wagon."
I've tried out a lot of different children's music from the library, and the great majority of it sounds terrible. Raffi on the other hand has a warm, gentle voice and his simple, joyful tunes appeal to both children and adults alike.
We'll be going on a very long car trip next month and you'd better believe we'll be bringing Raffi along!
