One thing about a machine that doesn't have any problems, you take it for granted and give it a so-so review. However after having 2 tiny sewing machines break or not thread with the bobbin I can appreciate this reliability of this machine. I read the whole manual and now just by glancing at the decals and arrows on the sewing machine itself I can quickly set up and change settings without hesitation. I like that it opens up on the bottom so you can sew cuffs.

I needed a machine to travel with me, for on-site sewing, and this one was a terrific price. I also bought a hard-shell case (also from amazon.ca) and the machine fits inside with room to spare.
The dials are easy to set, easy to read, and the machine runs very well.
It doesn't have bells and whistles like higher-end machines, but that's just fine. I would have loved this machine back in university, and it is an excellent spare.
I've already recommended it to at least 3 friends who are shopping for a decent first machine.

After buying a used sewing machine for $40 and getting really frustrated with it, I decided to get a new one. I went to a brick-and-mortar store and the only machines they had under $200 looked like toys, like they were made entirely out of cheap plastic (and probably were). I don't need 250 types of stitches or LCD screens, I just need sew fabric together.

When I saw the Singer 4411 on Amazon, right away I figured out what Singer was trying to achieve with this machine: a well engineered machine that just works, without bells or whistles, that's not going to jam, is built to last decades, and priced cheaply so amateurs can afford it. If that's what they were going for, they did an excellent job.

This is the second time I try to use a sewing machine, and it only took me 10 minutes to make perfect stitches without reading a manual. Everything is built for ease of use. It's about as quiet as a sewing machine can get, and it actually looks really nice.

The only thing I don't like on this machine is that the cord that goes between the machine and the foot pedal is on the short side. It's enough, but barely. I guess if you're always going to place the machine on the edge of a table it's not going to be a problem, but I would have liked to have the cord going towards the back of the table, not on the front of it. Another couple feet would have been great so I could tuck that cord out of the way. But it's a minor detail so I'm still giving it 5 stars.

Bottom line is if you're looking for a basic, well built, affordable sewing machine, I doubt you'll find anything better than this.

I have had sewing machines all my life and this one is intuitive and easy to use. Very quiet and smooth with clear instructions and knobs. Self threading and a regular light bulb instead of harsh led would have been nice

Of course it works right out of the box...

This machine eats up your fabric after a while. The dog feeders don't do their work and when you want to make button holes you yourself have to adjust the setting so one side is equally thick as the other. A Walmart Brother does button holes in one setting (repeat 1) and this overprices machine let's you adjust and adjust and adjust. I had it for 7 months now and I sew every day and I'm so sorry I spent my money on this machine. Please save yourself the trouble. Singer can't make sewing machines. They are tricking you. I have an old machine I somehow always revert to. And I'm going to now. Again. Singer = never again.
