la question des rééditions, Mar 26 2011
This review is from: Sings The Blues (Audio CD)
la voix, la musique de Nina est sublime, comme toujours. mais il existe un cd qui contient toutes ces pièces, plus 6 autres, ce qui en fait un meilleur achat. Est-il encore disponible ? étiquette Novus no 3101-2-N.

Merci Alain - What's the alternative album?, Jun 20 2011
This review is from: Sings The Blues (Audio CD)
Alain wrote en francais, "The voice, the music of Nina are sublime as always. But there's a cd with all these pieces and six others, which makes it a better buy. Is it available?" (Merci, Alain). I can't find it, and I can't assemble these track from my Nina anthologies. Also noting that this album is not available through other sources in Canada (eg, eMusic), I'd be grateful for the name of that other album, otherwise I'll have to get this one, based on sounds bites.

It's Not A Compilation!!!, Aug 20 2007
By Leena Lintila - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Sings The Blues (Audio CD)
I think the reviewers who are criticizing the short length of this CD are missing the point slightly. I know there are lots and lots of compilations of Nina Simone's work but this is NOT one of them. It is a reissue of her original 1967 album. If you want to hear passionate, raw and powerful blues songs in their original context as meant by Ms. Simone, this album is for you. If you are new to her and want to have the most bang for your buck (and who doesn't?), by all means skip this one and choose one of those many compilations.

Nina at Her Best, Nov 24 2009
By S. J. Simmons - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Sings The Blues (Audio CD)
Nina Simone sang many styles of music well, including soul and jazz, but to me, this is Nina at her best. She squeezes every drop of emotion from her voice. This is raw, passionate blues, and I think it's one of the more important albums of the 60's. Some reviewers have complained that this album is too short. That's unfair, given that this is an original album. However, if you want a longer album, there is a compilation called "The Blues" that reproduces this original album with additional tracks. I'd recommend buying that CD instead.

Wow!, Jun 22 2007

This is my introduction to Nina Simone. I heard "Do I Move You" in the 4th season sound track of The L word. I have heard of Nina Simone, but never really bothered to check her out, but I really liked "Do I Move You, " such a cool song, so I decided to buy this CD. It is awesome. I think is it a perfect intro to a great singer. Her voice is so distinct that it can never be copied, and her styling and phrasing is deep. "In the Dark" & "I Want a Little Sugar in My Bowl," are absolute gems, but the CD overall is excellent. My only complaint is the measly 38 minutes, I think there could have been more songs added, but other than that it's a good CD for starters.
