Book Description

Dec 11 2012

Based on decades of research, it is now known that the most effective program for the reversal of chronic insomnia is called "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia" or CBT-I. However, this treatment is rarely available to the general public as CBT-I is usually only offered by specially-trained psychologists or as part of research studies. People using CBTI report improved sleep, often in as little as 2-3 weeks and maintain good sleep for years.

Sink into Sleepbreaks CBT-I down into a step-by-step, easy format, allowing the reader to follow the same effective program that patients in the clinic do. AlthoughSink into Sleepis anchored in the science of sleep, the tone of the writing is reassuring and encouraging filled with first person accounts and easy to use worksheets.

Much, Much More Than a Workbook,Sink Into Sleepfeatures:
  • A chapter focused on men (often ignored by insomnia books)
  • A chapter focused on women and their special sleep needs
  • A chapter focused on sleep and medical conditions
  • A chapter focused on sleep and anxiety or depression
  • A chapter on the pros and cons of sleep medication
  • An effective step-by-step guide to cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I)

I reviewed the book with the following:

"Could be effective, but its limitations are explained dozens of pages into the book. Not appropriate for all and should be explained on Amazon page."

Amazon rejected this review as inappropriate. The book cannot be used by people
With certain situations. The author explains this pages into the book. The
Program, then, is not for everyone and that should be expained before purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally getting a good night's sleep! Dec 7 2012
By James Willis - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Sink into Sleep is a highly readable and reassuring guide that helps you overcome chronic insomnia. It describes how our innate sleep processes work, then advises us on how to "get out of the way" so that those natural processes let us sleep well without medication. There are very helpful chapters for people with various medical conditions, chronic pain, and I especially appreciated the chapter on the special concerns for men, although it seems that women have more sleep challenges than men do! After giving the necessary background for understanding our sleep concerns, the author guides the reader through a week-by-week program of sleep therapy, utilizing sleep diaries and behavioral instructions. These techniques are the same ones that are used in professional sleep clinics, a treatment program called Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). The author has done a real service in making this effective treatment accessible and easy to follow for all.
