5.0 out of 5 stars Sister Act, Nov 9 2009
By D. Aiges - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Sisters: An Anthology (Paperback)
Having grown up with a sister who is just fifteen months younger than me, I've always enjoyed reading about sisters and their various relationships. This new anthology has a little something for everyone: if you have a sister or even a friend who is like a sister to you. The writers are varied, from Margaret Atwood to Wendy Wasserstein. And the truth about the complicated relationships of sisters shines through every piece: the bonds, the rivalries, and how the relationships can change over time. A perfect gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars A critical missing piece in the picture of human relationships!, Nov 13 2009
By Lotta - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Sisters: An Anthology (Paperback)
Why is there so little written about sisters? The social science literature has so many excellent studies of parental relationships, marriage, romantic relationships, and so very little about this intensely interesting bond. These stories, essays and poems offer poignant and evocative dimensions of the complex, fraught, loving, competitive, and powerful relationships sisters experience. I hope this becomes volume 1 of a series, and I plan to make this my holiday gift for everyone I know who has a sister, wishes she had a sister, or has become a symbolic 'sister'. Thank you, Paris Press!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars People magazine got it right!, Dec 17 2009
By J. Gibson - Published on Amazon.com

This book is a gem--as another reviewer said, why has there been no literature before like this? I once told a friend of mine who only had a brother that an older sister is like a mother--only younger. But it is more complicated than that, and it took many, many writers to convey the complexity of the relationship. I am pasting in the People review--not a literary powerhouse,I know, but they got this one spot-on.

PEOPLE Magazine Review: 3.5 out of 4 stars
Writers including Margaret Atwood and Alice Walker explore sisterhood in this intelligent collection. Don't look for sugar sweetness here; do expect heartache. One woman mourns the younger sister she lost. Another recalls trying to be "A good daughter" while her wilder sister broke loose. The book makes it clear that sisters don't outgrow their bonds. "Life doesn't go backwards and I want to know you," poet Daisy Zamora writes. "To recognize you./"That is, to get to know you again." Once a sister, always one.

Buy it for a sister in your life.
