Unlike Six Feet Down Under part I, part II was not taken from bootleg sources. The fidelity here is much better, making this an immediately more enjoyable listen. Where part I released Australian Metallica recordings as far as back to the Justice days to St. Anger, this EP is taken solely from Metallica's most recent Aussie tour.

The track list is quite good, and is as follows:

"Fade to Black"

You'll notice all tracks are oldies, all songs are over 20 years old, nothing from the Black album or beyond. That's because these tracks were selected for release by the fans. The fans have spoken, and this is the Metallica they wanted! Personally, I prefer a more varied lineup. While I'm sick to death of a lot of the Black and Load album material, it would have been nice to get some recent stuff from Death Magnetic too.

The performances are, as expected, pretty sloppy at times. Hey, it's Metallica. If you're going to be harping away on the fact that Lars is an overrated drummer, why are you even looking at this EP? You just figured that out? The energy and adrenaline is there, and that's what makes a Metallica concert special. Except these tracks were pulled from several concerts. You have to assume the band picked the versions that they liked best.

Packaging wise, this one lacks the little liner notes from the band that part I had. However, the cool part is, it comes in a double CD digipack designed to house both part I and part II in the same case. Remember back in the early 90's, when bands would do that with CD singles? I love this little retro touch.

My only complaint is the price.

Now this is more like it! July 1 2011

The Six Feet Down Under EPs were exclusive releases for Australian and New Zealand Metallica fans that have since made its way to the rest of the world. They feature live recordings taken from the band's tour of those countries. There are two EPs in the series, the second of which is by far the better release.

Unlike the first Six Feet Down Under EP, the audio quality of Part II is really good. It's way beyond the bootleg quality of the first EP. Part II also has the better song selection, with all eight songs coming from the band's first four (the only four for some of us) albums. The band sounds great throughout.

The Six Feet Down Under Part II EP comes in a double digipack with an empty tray to hold the first Six Feet Down Under EP. This seems like clever marketing to me, as it will push some fans to buy the not as good first EP just to complete the set.

In the end, this EP is really only essential for the die-hard Metallica fans who are going to buy everything the band releases, but I can also see the EP appealing to old school fans looking for a good live collection of classic Metallica songs. I'll give this EP a 5-star rating to balance the 3-star rating I gave Part I. Taken together; Six Feet Down Under is a 4-star collection.

Scraping into four star territory. June 30 2011

To celebrate their 2010 tours of Australia and NZ Metallica decided to release a couple of live EP's. Not a bad idea - but what hobbled Part I so much was that a number of the recordings were fan bootlegs from as long ago as 1989 and to say they were subpar would be an epic understatement. To purchase Part I you really have to decide for yourself whether or not you want to buy songs you've heard a zillion times, recorded better. Just to get at some feeling of having something vaguely collectible in the future. With Part II that is happily less of an issue.

The production here is far better mainly due to the tracks being sourced from the 2010 tours themselves. And with this release in mind the shows were evidently recorded properly and so this release is the pick of the duology. Living in Australia I was able to score this at a fairly reasonable price given it is eight tracks of great metal by one of the best purveyors of the form over the last 40 years. But it is my understanding that as these things were initially released only on import status in the rest of the world that in some territories the price is more a factor.

Truly, the most helpful advice I can try to give is that fistly this EP does not suffer the garbage audio quality that some of the tracks on Part I are blighted with. Secondly this is a good stand alone release. Third - and on the down side - you already own these tunes don't you? You know how they go and have listened to them a billion times right? So if the price is on the cusp of what you would be happy to pay perhaps you don't need yet another version of Master of Puppets etc..

A final note about the packaging. Part I comes with a bog standard jewel case. No worries. But Part II comes in digipack thing (which will scuff just from having you look at it) and it's a fold out affair with a tray for the aforementioned Part I. Which means if you buy the better EP (this one) only then you'll end up with a weirdly empty tray. If you buy both you can have them both in the fancy pants digipack but then you'll end up with an equally pointlessly empty jewel case from the Part I. Whatever....
Great for die hard Metallica fans/collectors Oct. 2 2012

As someone who loves collecting Metallica recordings I really enjoy this ep as well as Part 1 despite the bootleg sound quality. All of the songs on Part 2 sound fantastic. Compared to the last live Metallica ep I bought which was Some Kind Of Monster, this is way better. If you're a die hard Metallica fan and collector you'll love it.
