3.0 out of 5 stars Good book but don't be fooled Feb 26 2011
By jforsp1
Format:Paperback
Don't be fooled into thinking that this is a new book from Mary Roach, because it isn't! This is actually her 2005 book called Spook that has been retitled and released in paperback format! So if you bought Spook, please don't spend your money on this book. If you don't own Spook then by all means buy it, read it and enjoy it. It's an interesting book dealing with the question of life after death and if there's such a thing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another entertaing read from Ms Roach May 3 2011
By C. J. Thompson TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
If this book had been written by somebody else I likely wouldn't have bought it as the subject is merely of passing interest to me. However, I really enjoy Ms Roach's witty and engaging style of writing and I felt sure that she would entertain me as she has in other books. In truth, I didn't quite enjoy this one as much as Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers or Packing For Mars. A lot of the book focuses on scientific investigations and details a number of experiments so it is not that surprising that the author was not always able to keep her characteristic light and jaunty tone throughout. Still, I did enjoy it on the whole and will likely read it again. By the way... prospective purchasers should be aware that this book is actually a re-release under a new title of Roach's Spook, published in 2005.

1.0 out of 5 stars New Cover, New Name....OLD BOOK! April 26 2008

Apparently trying to make a few extra bucks on those who shied away from "Spook" due to it's black cover with a small reflective oval Ms. Roach, or her publisher, thought it would be a great idea to flip the cover on this sucker and make some more money preying on those who feel more comfortable with the light-hearted and colorful cover, and not-so-creepy new title. As a Mary Roach fan from "Stiff" and "Spook" I was very excited to see this new book that came out in April '08 according to Amazon, but as it arrived last week I was sad to find out that it was "Spook" with a new cover. Seriously, table of contents, each chapter, word for word, line for line...same book. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed "Spook," but I just wasted almost $20 buying a book I've had since Oct '06. WOW.

1.0 out of 5 stars Old Books In New Covers July 9 2011
By Shr_Nfr - Published on Amazon.com
Like other reviewers I got both Spook and Six Feet Over: Adventures in the Afterlife expecting them to be different books. Wrong. Same book different title. I rate it 1 star for the abject dishonesty involved, although I enjoyed Six Feet Over despite the fact that she got Edison and the Elephant wrong. Edison was the investor of the electric chair, see "Edison and The Electric Char" and that was far from the first elephant he zorched.
