Another Incredible Album,
By Kenyon Wallace (Vancouver, British Columbia Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Skating Rink (Audio CD)
With this incredible CD, David Francey, once again, proves he is a valuable presence on the Canadian and North American Folk music scene. His poignant lyrics and rich melody lines paint a tapestry of imagery and are delivered straight from the heart. Backed up by Geoff Somers on guitar and fiddle and Dave Clarke on guitar, Francey offers the listener glances into everyday Canadian life and the joys and sorrows that come with it. Standout cuts include "Broken Glass", "Grim Cathedral", "Nearly Midnight" and the title track. Dave Clarke's superb fingerpicking on his 1938 Martin D-18 guitar add to the enjoyability of this record, and Francey's voice is in top form. A worthy album that stands up with his debut album "Torn Screen Door" and his juno award winning "Far End of Summer" CD.

A wonderful find!,
By D. Warner - Published on Amazon.com
This past winter I heard the title track "Skating Rink" used as background music for the CBC's "Hockey Day In Canada"...I didn't know who or what the song was but I knew I loved it and tracked down the artist info. After previewing all the tracks on this album, I took the plunge and bought the MP3 download. I don't mind telling you that this is not the kind of music I usually listen to, but David Francey has a real energy in his songs, catchy lyrics, and harmonies that you'll find yourself humming throughout the day. It's really something special! Of course the title track is a great song, but there are many others as well... "Come Rain or Come Shine", "Belgrade Train", "Nearly Midnight", "Annie's House", "Broken Glass", and "Midway" are all highlights. I've turned my kids and a few other people on to this guy and we're all enjoying his work right now! I've gone on to also buy "The Waking Hour" and am considering a few of his other albums as well. I'm definitely a David Francey fan now and so glad I found his music! Download the MP3 / buy the CDs and ENJOY!

David Francey's Brilliant Addition to Folk Music,
By B. Montgomery "teacher-reader" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Skating Rink (Audio CD)
We first heard David Francey at a house concert in California, far from the winter cold of Canada. We fell in love immediately with his clear voice and messages, each painting a picture of life, love, or the industrial landscape of the Canadian and American heartland. No wonder he wins awards in his native Canada. Do yourself a favor and buy all his music.
