Book Description

June 2 2012 Sketchbook Confidential
More secrets from the private sketches of 38 master artists

The idea may be derived from anything really--a flash of sunlight, the tilt of a head, a glass on the table...but the sketch is where it all begins, the point where inspiration meets artist. Gloriously free of the need to get it "right," the sketch is where possibilities are explored, compositions are found, and visions come to life.

A brilliant follow-up to the first Sketchbook Confidential, this book grants you access to 38 of art's most creative minds via their sketchbooks. Whether created in studios, subways or the middle of a farmyard, these sketches represent art in its raw form. Up until now, this work has been tucked inside drawers or on studio bookshelves. Now the artists lay it out for all to see, along with intimate musings on the art of sketching and how it helps them commune with a subject, find their path to a finished piece or discover even greater rewards in the journey itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars The work behind the work July 12 2012
By Rose A. Bradley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book offers one the chance to look at what these very good artist do before the do their very good work. There are clues here for the rest of us. The book is organized by artist name, with several pages written by the artist themselves along with photos of their journal or sketch book pages. These are so enjoyable. For visual learners, These peeks are worth a thousand words. The comments by the artists are enriching in other ways, not just "how to", they describe their creative habits, and where they find their joy. The reader can enjoy a casual relationship with this book, opening anywhere to look at one artist and be encouraged, inspired, helped.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource! Aug. 6 2012
By S. Garner - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I teach a sketchbook course every fall semester at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado. One of the goals of this course is to get students drawing and to help them open their minds to what is possible in a sketchbook. This book is a great resource because it does just that by showing the pages of sketchbooks from other artists in a great format that is well designed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Liberating June 13 2013

Like SBC 1 it has helped me "loosen up"in my sketch book. I use it to explore ideas and develop ideas that may not go anywhere, but that does not matter. It is important to do something, anything, and let it go where it may.
This message comes through loud and strong with both these books. A valuable asset for anyone wanting to do any type of creative endevour, wether for professional, study or personal (the best of all) development.
