HASH(0xa7f62f3c) out of 5 stars Russian Lieder Aug. 15 2010
By V. Jackson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Slavonic Souls is a new CD of Russian Lieder featuring songs by noted composers Peter Tschaikowsky, Sergei Rachmaninow, Nikolai Rimski-Korsakow, and Modest Mussorgski. The pieces are movingly sung by Mezzo Sopraono Zoryana Kushpler. She is accompanied by her sister Olena Kushpler on piano. Russian Lieder is not as well known as German Lieder, however this recording showcases pieces that serve as an introduction to this fine cultural tradition. I especially enjoyed track 13, Die Wolken ziehen sich zuruck. Russian music may sound foreign to your ear, but don't let that stop you from purchasing this recording. This cd was recorded on the Capriccio Label and distributed by Naxos.
