I know, I rarely review non fiction, but Jillian Michael's latest book Slim for Life: My Insider Secrets to Simple, Fast, and Lasting Weight Loss, is one I definitely wanted to read. I have struggled with my weight for many years - up and down, up and down. I've reached the point where I am making the commitment to yes, watch my weight, but more importantly to be healthy.

There are soooo many diet, weight loss and health books on the market today and it's really difficult to know who or what information you can trust. And, I guess that's why I wanted to read Michaels' book - because in my eyes, she is trustworthy, she has a proven track record and although I don't know her and will never meet her, I just, well, like her. So I wanted to hear what she had to say.

"Bottom line, over the last several years, I've come to recognize that the more simple and straightforward I can make the information, the easier it is for you to cut through all the crap, apply the advice, and get the results you want."

I've had this book for a few weeks now, but found it was easier to take a piece of information or an idea, try to apply it to my life and only then go back for more, rather than trying to do it all at once (and expecting results in seven days or less ;) ) And Michaels herself says you don't have to follow all the strategies - pick and choose what works for you. Each chapter ends with a checklist that you can use to decide what tips will work for you. It's also a great reminder.

The first chapter was a great refresher on the basics.

-Clean out the cupboards. If it's not there, you can't eat it.

-Write down what you eat - it's there in black and white. Of course I've heard of this, but have I ever followed through before?

I love this book! It's simple, straightforward and easy to understand. Not everybody understands the concept of losing weight (calories in, calories out plus exercise of course) and how to keep the weight OFF. She gives great advice about what foods to buy, foods to stay away from, myths, workouts, attitude, and even how to dress slim...You'll find everything you need in this book. What I love most about her, she doesn't sugar coat anything...she goes straight to business! I lost 30 lbs following everything, well, "Jillian Michaels" (DVD's, books, podcasts, videocasts, 30 day meals plans...). I'm using this book to keep the weight off, and lose an additional 15 lbs (plus I bought her new Hard Body DVD...it's great by the way!). I give this book an A+! Thanks Jill!

I've read this book cover to cover in 2 days! Couldn't put it down! Loved it! Many people have asked about my new lifestyle and what I do because clearly it's working (losing weight and toning) and I refer people to this book. Many have asked to borrow it from me but because I keep refering back to it for tips and reminders, I tell them to get their own copy. Selfish of me? Damn straight! Love this book and would hate to part with it for too long or to lose it! JM doesn't sugar-coat things in this book, she is real with you and sometimes gives you a swift kick in the ***. So basically, if you want to have a healthier lifestyle, read this book, do the excercise at the end of each chapter, make sure your responses are genuine and honest. You don't need to follow EVERY tips and tricks in the book but try your best to follow as many as you can for the best benefits. I also have most of her work out videos and switch it up daily. She explains all about muscle confusion and recovery. All in all, BEST book I've ever read about healthy lifestyle.

I love Jillian Michaels DVD workouts and cookbooks. But this book I found boring to read, difficult to follow (not simple). I was looking for a book with quick tips and advice but this book is written with a point system standard.
