As with any NIN album, you'll have people that love or hate it - or just don't get it. That's great, because no review will help everyone. Who will like this album, in my opinion, is what this review is about.
If you like songs like We're in This Together, My Violent Heart, Getting Smaller, the Hand That Feeds - you'll like a lot of these tracks. There are also ambient tracks that people who liked Ghosts will enjoy, or the Fragile's ambient tracks. If you like where NIN is going, you'll like this.
If you're looking for another the Downward Spiral or Broken, you probably won't be into this as much. There'll never be another Downward Spiral, and it'd be an insult to try and duplicate it, as it's a unique masterpiece that should stand proudly alone. The other albums of NIN are wonderful in their own right, they have individuality, it's like following Trent's footprints as they walk along a hard path - evolving him and of course the many supreme artists that walk along with him and add their own distinctiveness to the collective. Yep a borg reference ;)
If you like the whole evolution that Nine Inch Nails is always going through, the multiple moltings and growing pains, this is a must for your collection. Fresh meat for the tasting.
Fun, energetic, pumping, and a continuation of the book of NIN! It pulls many themes, phrases, and samples from the other NIN Albums, putting a new spin and giving your mind the slip from reality for a while. Can't wait to see what's next.
Favorite part: "Head Down" - beautiful bits, rough bits, and I love the lyrics.
Least Fave part: There are some phrases and themes that are a little too common in albums I'd like to see less of. I'm all about themes but sometimes enough is enough. ;)
