A MUST HAVE for any Nirvana collector/completist. An official release from Tupelo (licensed by Sub Pop), out of print and hard to find.
If you are "just" a dedicated fan, these songs are released on other Nirvana easier to find CD's.
1- "Sliver"; the same version later released on Incesticide. Great punk-pop song.
2- "Dive"; very much alike the Incesticide version - but the VERY LAST time Kurt sings "Dive in me" it's slightly different (lower key).
3- "About A Girl (live)"; the popiest song in Bleach. this live version is very cool because it's played in a slightly faster tempo.
4- "Spank Through (live)". another great song, starting in a Beatles pop mood and then bursting into grunge dementia. Curiously, on this single the song is not named "Spank Thru", like in subsequent Nirvana releases or prior Sub Pop 200 compilation.
Both "About A Girl" and "Spank Through" live versions are taken from a February 9th, 1990 show at the Pine Street Theatre in Portland, Oregon, and can now be found in 2009 Bleach 20th Anniversary Edition, with a better sound, actually.
Released in 1990, this single builds the bridge between the heaviest Melvins-inspired sound from 1989 Bleach and the more pop side of Nirvana's 1991 Nevermind. The choice of songs clearly points in that direction.
