Ed Miller has written a series of books, each taking you a step further into the art of beating lower limit cash and online poker games.
The focus is online $1/$2, 6-max; with the commentary, that if you can consistently beat this level of competition, you'll do well in small stakes live power (and home games) too.

He had a previous book (No Limit Hold 'Em - Theory and Practice) with David Sklansky, which was basic introduction to the game.
Through reading that, I realized I liked his style of writing and his poker expertise.

This one focuses on the lower limit play.
Each hand has a combination of hand equity (winning, at the showdown based on having the best hand possible) and fold equity (winning without the best hand, because through your play you convinced stronger hands to fold).
It shows how to isolate poor players, because they're basically giving their money away so you want to be heads-up with them as often as possible.
It show the importance of stealing the blinds.
Of being an aggressive player, to make decisions harder for the opposition; and conversely, how to deal with an aggressive player at your game.

After this one, I'd suggest (also by Ed Miller) How to Read Hands At No-Limit Hold'em and Playing the Player; both are excellent and build upon the basis established in this book.
There's a lot to digest in this one.

This is a very well organized, well written and authoritative coverage of the subject matter.

However, it will be a while before I am able to put it contents to practical use - and therefore see if it lives up to its claims - if only because it will take me quite some time to absorb the sheer volume of ideas in it that are new to me.

If you were to ask me to review this again six months from now, by which time I should have been able to check on my ability to implement its advice, I would be happy to do so, and then tell you whether its advice worked for me.

There are a few typos, which really ought to be cleaned up, but they do not detract from the content.

My initial impression is that it is excellent.

HASH(0x9ef1e168) out of 5 stars Example Driven Content March 9 2011
By John - Published on
Format: Paperback
I bought this back when it was first released as an ebook, so I can only speak to the content in the book. The information isn't anything new or groundbreaking, and if you are subscribing to any of the video training sites then most of this information should be familiar to you. What the book does well is driving those points home with a ton of well thought out examples.

The bulk of the book is part 2 (beating 200NL) and it does a very good job of breaking down the basic skills you need to beat aggressive 6 max games (stealing, value betting, isolating, 3/4/5 betting, ranging, etc.). I personally found the chapters on value betting and handling opposing aggression to be the most useful chapters in the book. The third part of the book (7 easy steps...) is mostly fluff, but its not very long so its not too bad. Part 4 (beyond 200NL) is good as well, particularly the sections on overbetting and underbetting the flop. Overall I would say I was pleased with the purchase, and I would definitely recommend it to others.

HASH(0x9ec64d98) out of 5 stars Must own for any poker library Dec 11 2010

Well written (as are all Ed Miller tomes), clear and concise. You wont' get all the info on your 1st or even 5th read, but you will become a much more proficient no-limit poker player if you learn this material.
Written for online 6-Max games, but just as easily adapted to live full-ring games. Mainly you are taught how to be aggressive to keep up with current no-limit trends.
One of the top 5 poker books I have ever read (own 60+).

HASH(0x9ed495d0) out of 5 stars Great Thoughts About NL Cash Game Poker Nov. 2 2010
By F. Cohen - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book really gets you thinking about the fact that you must either have the best hand at showdown or be ready to be aggressive and steal pots. We all know that aggressive play works, but this book hammers the point home. The book focuses on online 6-max play, but the concepts apply to live full ring no-limit hold 'em games.
A great read!

Buy for online only. Not as useful for live table games. Also it really covers 6 MAX tables so if you are looking for full ring games this book isnt for you.

The book is very well written and is a great way to learn some advanced concepts on NL holdem. Especially the concept of stack to pot ratio is presented in a very extensive but easily understandable manner. Overall, a great read for anybody serious about improving their NL skills.
