In this guide, the Cookies demonstrate how women of all ages can achieve financial security. They share their own stories, offer easy-to-follow steps, and lay out simple plans for meeting any goal, whether it’s eliminating debt, making good investments, becoming a smart spender or saving up for a big-ticket purchase.

The Smart Cookies' Guide to Making More Dough invites every reader to become "the sixth cookie," to take control of their financial lives and have fun doing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read! Oct 16 2008
Format:Hardcover
A friend recommended this book (she's cousins with Katie) and I picked it up hoping to find something different than the usual fare offered in books like Smart Women Finish Rich or Suze Orman's books. I was pleasantly surprised! I loved how open and honest the women are about their financial situations, and how difficult it was for them to open up. The writing is approachable and easy to read, and I liked that while there were worksheets and questions to answer, it wasn't a workbook.

I guess they have a tv show, which I've never seen, and an online subscription to help you find a money group in your area. They have inspired me to sign up and get better control of my financial future.

Definitely a great book, and one that offers a lot of great advice (not the tired old latte factor cliches).

4.0 out of 5 stars Good basics on money for young women July 25 2010
Format:Hardcover
I enjoyed this book quite a bit. The authors' platform is about forming your money group (as they did) and confessing financial blunders to each other and relying on group members for accountability and support as your turn your life around financially. The main thing I like about this book is the quiz you take on what type of spender you are. Very insightful for me. They speak quite openly about how women don't ask for things, like raises and give some helpful ideas about thinking about what's fair and how to go about asking. They also try to give ideas about how to cut expenses and raise extra money, but I didn't find most of that extremely helpful (eg. consignment stores and garage sales for clearing out your stuff). This would be a book for young women (read under 30 - early in careers, not large amounts of debt) who have a fairly large network of friends (need several to establish your money group - not anyone will do).
