Someone FINALLY understands!, Aug 29 2011

This review is from: The Smart Woman's Guide to Midlife Horses: Finding Meaning, Magic and Mastery in the Second Half of Life (Paperback)
I have gotten questioned A LOT about my return to college after an absence of 40 years. During those years I was raising a family of six children, helping my husband and his dad by doing farm work and doing all the things moms do. When the kids had flown from the nest, I decided to go back to college and complete the degree I started in 1968. My husband had a hard time understanding why in the world I would want to do such an outrageous thing.
THEN HE READ THE BACK COVER OF THIS BOOK. He looked at me and asked if I had read it. I hadn't and so I did. I almost cried. THIS WAS ME! I told him it said exactly what I felt. WHY NOT NOW? AND IF NOT NOW....WHEN? I am 62, and love the freedom of learning and expanding my knowledge and meeting all types of people and am so glad I found this book to underline the need we all have for chasing that dream of ours, silly tho it may seem to some. Thank you, Melinda Folse. (I think my husband FINALLY understands!)

Jana & Zeke, Sep 1 2011

Fantastic, Entertaining, Superb, Educating! I bought this book and took it to Colorado on vacation in July. I could not put it down. I laughed and even teared up at times. I'm "a woman of that certain age" and I'm living a dream come true with my first horse, Zeke. I wish I had this book when I first started my horse adventure last summer. I'm certain it would have saved me from a few mistakes and given me the confidence I needed starting out. As a little girl, I would attend the parade in our hometown and dream of riding as the horses as rode by. I didn't care about Santa Clause as most children did... it was all about the horses. From the sound of their hooves on the pavement to their sweet musky smell. This book speaks to that yearning I had to ride so long ago and had to put on the back burner for forty plus years. I connected with the author and at times felt she was speaking directly to me. But beyond that, this book covers everything anyone needs to know about making your horse dream come true and what to do when it becomes a reality. Melinda has worked with the best of the best in the horse world, as you will note in her book... she is extremely knowledgeable.

Finally! A how-to guide for the rest of us! Most of the equine books on the market today are aimed either at the young beginner or the very advanced. Melinda Folse has filled that gap. Given that the majority of horse owners in the United States are women over forty, this book should speak to the hearts of many. Whether you had horses as a kid and are getting back into them as an adult, or you are new to the whole horse ownership thing, Melinda's book will be right up your alley. With sections covering the basics of horse ownership as well as fitness, finding time, and conquering fear, The Smart Woman's Guide to Midlife Horses has something for everyone.
