Tany Huff is an amazing writer,

This review is from: Smoke And Mirrors (Hardcover)
Well, I read this book just yesterday and I have to tell you it's as good as the first book in the series. I must caution those of you who aren't open to slash themese (or same-sex relationships - in this case male/male), the main character Tony Foster is gay. He's an awesome character though and the slash theme isn't explicit. It was well thought out and interesting. I recommend this series as well as her keeper series: the cats just kill me they're so funny. This one is really good because it combines ghosts and vampires and wizards but the wizard - Tony is still learning, the vampire can't save the day and the ghosts aren't what you might normally expect - at least I didn't expect them to be the way they were, not entirely anyway. It's also based in Canada, and how cool is that. If you're Canadian you'll get most of the jokes for sure and the author has a wicked and delightful sense of humor!!! Do yourself a favor and read it!!!

I wasn't certain I would enjoy Tony Foster as a primary character. But Tanya Huff gets her teeth into him and this "Smoke" series is at least as good as its predecessor, the "Blood" series. Tony grows into his role and Henry Fitzroy is as compelling in these books as the previous "Blood" trilogy. In fact he becomes both scarier and more human. And Tanya Huff, who must have inside knowledge of the Vancouver TV industry, has great fun creating a new set of characters and situations which are very, very funny even when demons and monsters and things that do bump and gulp in the night are bedeviling Tony, who just wants to direct. One of her best creations is the producer, CB. You never know if he is truly mortal, human, or something other, but he is a massive presence in every sense of the word. Trust Tanya Huff to write delightful and addictive books. She has never let me down.

Smoke and Mirrors Two Thumbs Up!,

This review is from: Smoke And Mirrors (Hardcover)
Okay I wasn't that impressed with smoke and shadows, Huff's 1st book in the all new "Smoke" series...infact I have yet to finish it! However this one is a page-turner. I read it in three days. Approx. 6 months have passed since Tony found out he could become a wizard, the shadowlord was defeated and everybody's memory accept for Tony's, Henry's and CB's mind has been wiped clear. This time there filming an episode about a Haunted House. The only trouble is this one is really haunted. When the house locks the crew inside and starts to try and kill them off one by one, Tony can only rely on his flailing wizard powers with no help from Henry who's locked out side! Will they survive? and if they do Tony's and Lee's relationship takes an interesting turn....don't miss it!
