When Liz Rooney discovers that her boyfriend, New York police detective George "Ike" Eichle, is involved in the murder investigation of Countess Harriet Hunterdon Zanardi, she expects that he will ask her to help. With a little help from her Gram, Liz gets a job as a maid in the Zanardi household, where she soon begins compiling a list of suspects. From her family to her ex-husbands to her servants, the bad-tempered countess, it seems, was hated by everyone. In between cleaning up the mansion, Liz uncovers more than a few secrets, but now she must decide if she wants to share this information with Ike. The fourth in her series featuring the detecting duo of Liz and Ike, O'Neill's latest is a good choice for libraries where old-fashioned, cozy amateur-sleuth series are popular.
