Along with Drunken Master, Snake in the Eagle's Shadow launched a new fusion of comedy and kung fu. And it's easy to see why Snake has been so popular--it's easily the most engaging of Jackie Chan's early films. Everyone abuses and humiliates a downtrodden orphan (Chan) until he befriends an old man, who turns out to be the last master of the "snake fist" fighting style. Jackie becomes the old man's student and finds himself in battle with the master of the "eagle's claw" style, who has vowed to destroy the snake fist clan. Though these plot elements are familiar stuff, they're all executed with outstanding verve; the performances, the fight choreography, and even the obligatory training sequence are unusually complex and well filmed. Jackie is in top form and coming into his own as a star. --Bret Fetzer

2.0 out of 5 stars SNAKE IN EAGLE'S SHADOW 2 - CHAN RIP-OFF!!! April 28 2012
Format:VHS Tape
First off the reviews i read here are for part
one and not this movie.
Snake In Eagle's Shadow 2.

I don't consider this a Jackie Chan movie. I say
this because the only time he appears is in scenes
edited in from part 1.

Don't be taken in by the cover or the back, which
has Chan all over it.

SKIP THIS ONE(PART 2) and get part 1, Snake In The
Eagle's Shadow, a classic that made Chan a star.

4.0 out of 5 stars great movie July 7 2004
Format:DVD
Very inspiring. Excellent fight scenes. Great plot. I rate it 4 stars because I think it is over-priced for no apparent reason. I first copied it on VHS from the local video rental store. I loved it but thought the quality of the VHS original was horrible so I bought the DVD. The DVD's quality is great so I am not disappointed, I just feel that for a special interest movie like this, the price could be more in line with other similar offerings. This movie is a must for your action film/martial arts collection. I just don't understand why the people who sell these DVD's can't understand that everyone is not so wealthy to be able to afford such a high price for a single disc.

Snake in the Eagle's Shadow was certainly one of the cheesiest movies I have ever seen. However, that was what made it so much fun. I was certainly recommend this film to anyone who is willing to laugh at the cheese and enjoy Kung Fu movies. I would claim the plot is too simple to be enjoyable by itself, you have to love the kung fu, which is amazing.
