Product Description

A gripping, action-packed short story available only as an eBook—from a master of character, crime, and urgent suspense.

Will Trent, a dedicated agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for fifteen years, knows that there’s definitely such a thing as a cop’s intuition. Which is why he should have listened to his own.

While in an airport restroom at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International, Will overhears a girl’s pleading, plaintive voice: “Please, I wanna go home.” Something isn’t right here, thinks Will. He feels it in his gut. But he waits too long to act, and now the girl and the anxious, angry man she’s with have disappeared into the crowds at the busiest passenger airport in the world.

After a desperate search and with time running out, Will makes a call to his supervisor, Amanda Wagner. Will’s partner, Faith Mitchell, immediately sends out an abducted child alert. The entire airport will soon be grinding to a halt: Almost 100 million passengers a year. Five runways. Seven concourses. Six million square feet of space that sprawled across two counties, three cities, and five jurisdictions. All shut down on a dime because Will has a hunch that he is certain is true: a girl, maybe six or seven years old, has been snatched from God knows where. And he intends to bring her back—no matter what it takes.

Includes an exclusive excerpt from Karin Slaughter’s thrilling new novel of suspense, Criminal.

5.0 out of 5 stars GRIPPING AND CAPTIVATING April 3 2013
By RJPP TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
SNATCHED by Karin Slaughter is a well written short story that features one of my favorite characters, GBI Agent Will Trent. I have all of Karin's books and love them all. This may be a short story, but it's packed with action and suspense.

Will is at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta (the biggest and busiest airport in the world), when he hears a little girl cry that she wants to go home. Getting that 'gut' feeling that something was amiss, Will decides to check it out. However, he waited too long and now he can't find the girl and the aggravated man. With growing anxiety that something is wrong, Will calls his boss, Amanda Wagner and partner Faith Mitchell who immediately puts out an amber alert, based on Will's instinct. Within moments, the airport, containing thousands of people and hundreds of flights, is all on lock down.

This is a fast-paced, heart-in-your-throat suspense story that I highly recommend. Excellent story.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my kind of book or interest Nov. 1 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I mostly found the plot line very unlikely, with perhaps too many really odd things going on, the rich, but not very bright main character connecting with the very unknown male. Maybe just trying to get too many situations into one book, but just my type of reading anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slaughter can't write a bad book Aug. 6 2013
By Luanne Ollivier #1 HALL OF FAME TOP 10 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
Karin Slaughter is one of my favourite crime authors. I've read every last title she's written.

Slaughter moves her characters along in real time, so start with The Grant County books and then the Will Trent series. You can read them as stand alones, but you'd be robbing yourself of a fantastic series.

The last book, Criminal (my review) finally answered some long held questions about Will's background. I cannot wait to see where the next book - Unseen - takes us. (It's next up on my nightstand)

Snatched was a great little listen before I started in on Unseen. Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent Trent has been posted to airport duty - the washrooms specifically. While hiding out in a stall in the men's, he hears a little girl in the next stall say 'I want to go home.' Is the man with her her father? Nothing untoward was said or done, but Will's radar is tingling. He decides to follow the pair, but loses them in the large airport. But he's sure something's not right - and the airport is shut down on Will's intuition. The race is on to find the girl before she is spirited away.....or worse.

Kathleen Early has read the last few of Slaughter's books and I hope they use her for future books. Her voice is clear, with short, crisp tones that mirror the lead character's way of thinking and speaking. The tone is no nonsense and easily conveys the escalating tension of the hunt for the missing girl. She provides believable voices for other characters as well.

As, I said, this is a favourite series and character and the wrong narrator would ruin the image I have of these familiar players. Early hits the right note. An enjoyable listen of an excellent story!

5.0 out of 5 stars A marvelous fast-paced, suspenseful story May 14 2012
By J. Chambers - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Karin Slaughter's novella "Snatched" hooked me immediately, for two reasons: (1) Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Will Trent was possibly witnessing an attempted child abduction, and (2) The events of the story took place in Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, my home town airport where I've been dozens of times in my life, either flying or meeting people.

Will Trent wouldn't have been stuck policing the airport restrooms looking for illicit sexual activities if he had kept his hair at regulation length to abide with GBI regulations. Unlucky punishment for him, but lucky for the child in the next stall with a man who could be abducting her. Unfortunately for both of them, Will's hesitation and a dead cell phone let the man carry the girl off.

Could Will find them amidst the hordes of travelers in the airport? The desperate attempts by the GBI and the Atlanta Police to find the man and the girl made for a fast-paced suspenseful story that I had to finish in a single sitting. And always in the background was the sickening fear that the police would be too late to save the child.

Without giving away the ending, I have to say that the author came up with a dandy finish, totally unexpected but very clever and logical.

I don't doubt that the story, while fiction, could likely be based on real-world abduction cases. In the story, Will Trent expressed a belief that child molesters like the one portrayed in the story deserve the death penalty. I think many people share his opinion.

The novella also includes an excerpt from Ms. Slaughter's novel Criminal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting & quick read - Will Trent at his best May 14 2012

Snatched is an edge of your seat short story featuring Slaughter's reoccurring characters, GBI agent Will Trent, his partner Faith Mitchell, and his boss Amanda. Will is searching for a child who he suspects has been snatched. Will chases the creepy suspect all over Atlanta's Hartsfield Jackson Airport before Faith and Amanda arrive on the scene.

The suspect with his "snarky smile" is educated and beyond arrogant, all of which makes him especially frightening. The small victim with her Hello Kitty shoes tugged at my heartstrings and made me root for Will all the more.

Snatched has action, suspense and is overall an exciting & quick fun read. The entire event was emotional for Will and Faith, but at the end Will definitely gets his reward. Faith lends some help and moral support and Amanda shows off her legal brilliance. I have read all of Karin Slaughter's Will Trent books and I thought this story was well worth the $1.99. Snatched is great for fans!

The last 17% of the download is the first chapter of Criminal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slaughter does not disappoint May 19 2012
By Cloggie Downunder - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Snatched is an ebook short story in the Will Trent/Georgia series by Karin Slaughter. Will Trent is on airport toilet duty, hiding in a cubicle waiting for gay cruisers, as punishment for refusing to get a haircut. Bored almost senseless, when a man brings a little girl into the restroom, his cop's intuition kicks in, telling him something is amiss. With nothing more than a hunch, he tails the pair, alerts authorities and has one of the busiest airports in the country heading towards lockdown. While this is a short story, Slaughter's plot, characters and pace are first class; Will is his usual understated but competent self; Faith Mitchell manages to inject a little dry humour into a tense situation. This is a small dose of Will Trent to hold faithful Slaughter fans until the next full length Georgia novel, Criminal (of which there is a tantalising taste included in this ebook), comes out. Once again, Karin Slaughter does not disappoint.
