The Best of Will Ferrell - Vol. 1
The latest in the line of Saturday Night Live's great character players (including Dan Aykroyd and Phil Hartman), Will Ferrell showcases his fearlessness in this 72-minute collection. Whether exposing skin or taking a pause beyond the normal limits, Ferrell induces hard laughs like with the cowbell rocker in the first sketch. The selection includes Ferrell's spot-on impressions of Cub announcer Harry Caray, game-show icon Alex Trebek, President Bush, and Inside the Actor's Studio host James Lipton. As with other SNL Best of... retrospectives, there are short snippets to go along with the full-length sketches that include excellent selections of Ferrell's returning characters Craig the Cheerleader and the swinging Culp brothers. A must for fans, and the DVD includes an intriguing audition footage in which Ferrell leaps from character and character.

The Best of Will Ferrell - Vol. 2
There is no drop-off in laughs from the first to second volume of Will Ferrell's work on Saturday Night Live. Giggle along with his recurring characters, including James Lipton (interviewing Kate Hudson as a wonderfully ditzy Drew Barrymore), a wickedly clever George W. Bush, and one-half of the smarmy Lovers couple. This volume spotlights Ferrell's ability to go successfully over-the-top whether as an overbearing boss (check out how long he keeps stabbing a doomed coworker), a strict airplane pilot, an absent-minded doctor, or the world's oldest baby. There's plenty of unabashed (near) nudity and risky violence, which keeps the SNL tradition of "Not Ready for Prime Time"; check out what longtime hosts of the morning talk show resort to when the much-needed teleprompter fails. All that plus "Janet Reno's Dance Party" (with guest Rudy Giuliani) makes this the perfect pick-up for those who could not get enough of Ferrell with volume 1. --Doug Thomas

5.0 out of 5 stars Funniest SNL DVD out there. Jun 6 2005
Format:DVD
Will Ferrell fans, rejoice!! This DVD set promises more laughs than a year of lesser quality comedy. Ferrell shows once again (in full character) why he is the ultimate King of Comedy. From Robert Goulet (Goulet!) to Gus Chiggins, the old prospector, to the Devil, Ferrell does it all in style...and with side-splitting originality with help from writing genius. Cameos from Christopher Walken, Garth Brooks, Drew Barrymore, Alec Baldwin, Jeff Goldblum and others push the hilarious momentum to an uncontested speed. The usual cast shines - and tries not to laugh - when next to the "Brilliant blinding light from heaven" that is Will Ferrell. The bottom line; if you haven't seen these DVD's you haven't lived (Note to reader: YOU WANT TO LIVE) There. I said it. Now run to your nearest HMV and purchase the two disc set before something terrible befalls you and you leave this world having not lived a full life.

Now-a-days I find Will Ferrell kind of meh as far as funniness goes. In his SNL days he looked at you a certain way and you were peeing your pants. That's the Will Ferrell you get here and that's the Will I want to watch, so when I want to laugh I put these DVDs in and anything sad in my life melts away (at least for a couple of hours). Worth buying if you have a healthy sense of humour!

Everyone with half a brain knows that the best & only cast of SNL worth watching was back in the late 80's to early 90's with the likes of Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Kevin Nealon, among others. Every cast before or since has been nothing but a sinkhole of talentless, boring, pathetic losers trying to be something they're not.... funny. The only way any of these people, especially Will Ferrell, could make me laugh is if they fell down a few flights of stairs and broke thier necks. Please, if you are entertaining the idea of purchasing this dreck, do something more constructive with your money... throw it out the window. That's what your doing anyway.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sidesplitting, but needs more material
A lot of great sketches, here, but alot missing. One of my favorites that was not included is the one with Garth Brooks, where Will plays the Devil.

I'm a big Will Ferrell fan. But if you're going to make a single DVD claiming "The Best of Will Ferrell" it should include better selections. Read more
