Though I don't regret reading this book, I wouldn't recommend it strongly. It is best described as ... sweet ... but the stories lack some of the sizzle that I hoped for. The first (Boston 1755) - A Family for Jeanne (Joyce Carlow) is the story of a young French woman who is hired by a gorgeous blacksmith to keep house and care for his young son. The problem is that his invalid wife is still alive, and we are forced to wait until the final pages of the story before they can realize their love. In short - we have to wait for the wife to die and then - "cheer"? It was hard to become emotionally involved with the tale. The other two stories are more enjoyable - Rachel's Gift by Holly Harte (San Antonio 1877) and Tessa's Heart by Linda Madl involve wild solitary men and strong willed females. If you buy this book, you will spend a pleasurable, but forgettable, day reading it.
