4.0 out of 5 stars Dreaming of Books Review, Feb 20 2011
By
Jenny "Dreaming of Books" (Vancouver, Canada) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Snow Queen (Paperback)
(May Contain Spoilers)

Aubrey's used to the Florida heat but it's always been her dream to visit Vermont and see the snow with best friend Christie. Little does she know, Christie has signed them both up for the local Snow Queen pageant. Aubrey knows that she's not pageant material. She's a tomboy and knows that in competing she will only embarrass herself. Being naturally competitive, Aubrey is the only girl to play in an all boys roller hockey league and would rather don a pair of skates and practice for the hockey shot competition. But Christie has always dreamed of winning the Snow Queen title, so being a supportive friend Aubrey reluctantly agrees to compete alongside Christie and help her win the crown.

Layla Chamberlain always gets what she wants and she wants to be the Snow Queen. She sees Christie as her main competition and is out to sabotage both Aubrey and Christie. Layla's the typical rich, spoiled brat and seeing the terrible things she does to Aubrey and Christie, you can't help but root for one of them to win.

Things get complicated when Aubrey meets local gorgeous boy Grayson who turns out to be Layla's brother. Grayson's always sending mixed signals to Aubrey and with Layla being his sister, she doesn't know if she can trust him or not. But Layla's gone too far with her pranks and Aubrey's competitive beast is unleashed. Now Aubrey will do anything to see the look on Layla's face when she loses even if she has to beat Christie.

Snow Queen was everything I expected it to be. It was a cute and fun read that is perfect for those long winter months but would also make for a good beach read.

Aubrey has never seen snow, since she's lived her whole life in sunny Florida. So, going up north with her best friend, Christie, is going to be the best vacation of her life! Or so she thinks...

Christie has entered Aubrey in the Snow Queen competition without her knowing - and Aubrey is nothing like a pageant girl! She'd rather play hockey than wear a gown. At first, Aubrey is adamant she's not going to enter, but she wants to support Christie -who has dreamed her whole life of being crowned Snow Queen - so she finally decides that she'll enter and help her friend win.

When spoiled and rich Layla Chamberlin starts sabotaging Chistie's chances to win, the competitive streak in Aubrey kicks into high gear. She wants to win this pageant even if it means beating Christie! All she wants to do is see Layla's pretty face when she loses.

To make matters worse, Aubrey has started dating Layla's brother, Grayson, who she thinks she can trust but she isn't really sure. After all, he is the brother of her biggest competition...

Can Aubrey recover her friendship with Christie? And will her relationship with Grayson ever get beyond the love-hate stage? You'll have to read on to find out!

SNOW QUEEN is a great book. It's got all the things a girl could want in a story - cute boys and lots of drama!

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved It!, Dec 8 2009
By princess bookie "Cin" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Snow Queen (Paperback)
My Thoughts: I started reading Snow Queen and was instantly sucked in. I loved reading all about Aubrey and her mission to help her friend Christie win Snow Queen, except of course the hip popular snotty girl thinks she has to win, so Aubrey starts to get a competitive streak and wants to win even if it means going against her best friend Christie. Aubrey also starts falling for a guy and you'll never guess who the guy is, really is! Read the book to find out who wins Snow Queen, does Christie and Aubrey's friendship last? What happens with the boy?

Overall: Great quick read! Would make a great Christmas present since its got snow and boys in it! This book is just the right book to read during the holiday season! Get yourself a copy now!

4.0 out of 5 stars Keeps you entwined in the story, Feb 25 2010
By Flamingnet Teen Book Reviews "FLAMINGNET COM" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Snow Queen (Paperback)
Aubrey has some expectations when she leaves Florida for

the first time to join her best friend Christie, at her

grandparent's Vermont inn, the Spotted Owl. She expects

snow, she expects to win the hockey shot competition at

the local carnival, and she expects to have a fun vacation

with her best friend. What she does not expect, however,

is to participate in the Snow Queen pageant, to meet an

uber cute guy, or be sabotaged by his word-that-rhymes-

with-witch-y younger sister. Added to all that, the

Spotted Owl's existence is being threatened by the local

resort, owned by the parents of the very guy Aubrey is

crushing on! So now, the girl who is most comfortable in

her roller blades and holding a hockey stick in her hand

is forced to navigate a sea of heels and sequins while

attempting to juggle her friendship, her romance, and

scheming pageant girls at the same time. Talk about out

of her element! Tenacious Aubrey eventually rises to the

task but not before a number of mishaps and falls on the

ice.

This book is perfect for curling up with under a

warm blanket and with a mug of hot chocolate or stretched

out on the beach listening to the roar of the ocean. We

often hear about summer romances. Now it is time for a

winter romance! I received it yesterday and read more

than half of it before bed. I was ecstatic when I

received the news of a snow day today, because I was then

able to finish it this morning. Harrison has a talent for

writing so that a person wants to see what the characters

do next. You never have an idea what headstrong Aubrey is

going to say or how she is going to react and it keeps a

reader entwined in the story.
