Long Lives The Queen, July 12 2004
This review is from: So Damn Happy (Audio CD)
Aretha Franklin tightened her rein on the title "Queen Of Soul" with the release of So Damn Happy. The lady has survived through almost 4 deacdes of musical landscapes and is still going strong. It is testament to her immense artistry that she can belt out contemporary material yet remain true to her gift. Aretha was simply in magnificant on every song presented here. Hearing the Queen in such fine form made me So Damned Happy.

Aretha Still got it!, Jun 1 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: So Damn Happy (Audio CD)
This album itself represents a how a great singer can still produce an exceptional album. After years and years of great songs and great albums, Aretha, in her early sixties, has produced yet another great album. This album is polished and has modern appeal despite the fact that Aretha herself came from a different era of singing (so to speak).
My only problem is that I think that the album may just be missing something or maybe it is just a bit too modern. I mean the songs are great ("Wonderful", "So Damn Happy", "Joy", and others as well are excellent), but it seems like the producers may have tried just a bit to hard to make it modernized for the music industry today. This album does go to show, however, that Aretha can sing anything, and compose very good songs ("So Damn Happy" and "Joy"). That is the mark of a good singer. 4 stars. Aretha, keep making these great albums!
