Reba is the Oprah of country music. Both have built their careers into empires by embodying the concerns, hopes, and desires of the average (whoever she is) American woman. So Good Together ranks with the country veteran's most consistently satisfying releases, confirming that she remains very much in touch with her core audience. Whether she's addressing the bittersweet end of a marriage ("Back Before the War"), commiserating over hot-button parental dilemmas ("What Do You Say"), or wondering how a relationship that seems so right can feel so wrong ("I'm Not Your Girl"), her down-home phrasing has the transparent intimacy of a heart-to-heart chat. She continues to stretch herself artistically as well, teaming with the popular Brazilian duo of Jose y Durval for a bilingual finale of Boz Scaggs's "We're All Alone." --Don McLeese --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice collection of ballads Oct. 18 2003
By Jake Z
Format:Audio CD
I have to admit when I first got this album, I wasn't terribly impressed. But it grew on me slowly, winning me over. The first single, "What Do You Say", tugged at my heartstrings. The video is very good and very effective for the song. "I'll Be", the second single (written by Diane Warren), is a nice song of devotion, and was also a mild hit. But it ended there, which is a shame because there's a lot of good songs here. "We're So Good Together" was the third single but went virtually nowhere, and the filmed video never saw the light of day unfortunately.
On SO GOOD TOGETHER, Reba worked with a variety of producers. She works again with Tony Brown and David Malloy, but this is the first time she worked with Keith Stegall. So there's a little variety in the song selection. The album is comprised mostly of country/adult contemporary ballads. There's very few uptempo songs. A lot of people didn't like this album for its polished sound but I think it was a bold move on her part.
Some of my favorites include "I'm Not Your Girl", "She Wasn't Good Enough For Him" and "Back Before The War". "I'm Not Your Girl" is a sad ballad about being reminded again and again that she is not with the guy anymore, and how everything has changed, except the way she feels. "She Wasn't Good Enough For Him" is a strong ballad about a woman who is not appreciated by her husband, and is basically treated rotten. "Back Before The War" is yes, another ballad, this time about two people getting a divorce and remembering the good times.
Other highlights include simple ballads like "When You're Not Trying To" and "Til I Said It To You".

3.0 out of 5 stars traditional gem Aug. 29 2003
Format:Audio CD
Trent Reznor she's not. But here, on her 26th album, Reba's once again front and centre on a solid country collection of simple but heartening examinations of love (We're So Good Together, I'll Be, Til I Said It To You, Where You End and I Begin) and heartbreak (Roses, I'm Not Your Girl, Nobody Dies From a Broken Heart). As always, Reeb's voice is the highlight, quavering and trilling through the Hallmark card sentiments like a hummingbird, wrapping the facile sentiments in her well-worn cloak of authentic rural charm. Musically, there aren't many surprises, but then that's been Reeber's recipe since the cows came home: acres of fiddles, connect-the-dot steel slide and rhythms as light as a country breeze. Reba's not in the game to shock or challenge and as So Good Together proves, she's sticking with tradition; disarming curmudgeons with a daisy bouquet of sweet 'aw-shucks' farm girl porch songs as soft as a feather pillow and glimmering with the wily patina of a vocalist who's been selling albums since the Farrah Fawcett feather coiffure was a concern.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD Gets Me So Emotional... Oct. 20 2001
By "nuey"
Format:Audio CD
This CD hits me...hard. This is practically a soundtrack to a lot of things that have happened in my life. Here's why:
1. 'So Good Together'-this song soundtracks about me and this one guy I was with ALL summer!
2. 'Til' I Said It To You'-this song soundtracks some feelings of mine I don't understand
3. 'I'll Be'-this song soundtracks how close my best friend and I are. I dedicated this song to her during the best summer of my life.
4. 'What Do You Say'-this song soundtracks the night my Grandpa died. This song reminds me so much of him
5. 'Roses'-(see track #2)
6. 'I'm Not Your Girl'-this song (along with #6, #7, #8, and #9)soundtracks 'one of the worst nights of my life'. Listen to the lyrics [Note: I'm talking about the same guy in tracks #1, #6, #7, #8, and #9]
7. 'She Wasn't Good Enough For Him'-this track soundtracks 'one of the worst nights of my life'. I know I wasn't good enough for him, his family, and ESPECIALLY his friends! Depressing
8. 'Nobody Dies From A Broken Heart'-when I first heard this song on 'one of the worst nights of my life', I thought I would be an exception to this song. I thought I was going to die of a broken heart that night but as you probably guessed, I didn't
9. 'Back Before the War'-if 'one of the worst nights of my life' had to be summed up in one song, this would be it. This song makes me cry every time
10. 'When You're Not Trying to'-just like tracks #2 and #5, this song means something to me but I don't know what
11. 'Where You End and I Begin'-see ^
12. 'We're All Alone'-see ^^
After reading all that, you might be wondering what the whole point of my review is. Well, it's this: GET IT! Reba is one of the best country singers and you should own her CD! Even if you're not a country fan, get this CD anyway--you can figure out what 'one of the worst nights of my life' was like. I have two words that pop into my head when I think of this CD: GET IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD Gets Me So Emotional... Aug. 28 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This CD hits me...hard. Half of this album is practically the soundtrack to the worst night of my life. Actually, this album soundtracks that night and the days to follow where I was depressed about the night which was 11 months and 3 days. I'm finally over the night and I've moved on! I almost regretted writing a review for this album because I was afraid of going back to those memories and being depressed again but I'm not. I'm glad I'm over the night. Writing this review makes me feel strong. Anyways, let's get to it:
1.So Good Together-this song describes the days before the depressed life I lived. This song is not one of my favorites. I only like songs by Reba that are sad/slow songs--they just have so much power and meaning to them than her fast songs.
2.Til' I Said It To You-this song means something to me--I just can't figure out what.
3.I'll Be-this song means a lot to me! I dedicated this song to my best friend last summer (2000). This song was the only reason I bought this album!
4.What Do You Say-this song reminds me of my grandfather that died a week before Christmas. This song brings me to tears.
5.Roses-just like track #2, this song means something to me but I can't figure out what. Not one of my faves.
6.I'm Not Your Girl-now we're getting into the point in the album where the album soundtracks the worst night of my life and soundtracks the depressed life I lived. The lyrics...OMG!...they fit my feelings perfectly.
7.She Wasn't Good Enough For Him-I know I wasn't good enough for him, his family, and especially his friends. This song fits my description of me to him perfectly (I think).
8.Nobody Dies From A Broken Heart-just like tracks #1 and #5, I don't really like this song.
