2.0 out of 5 stars The Amazing Thing is it Took Two People to Come up with this Weak Storyline, Jun 27 2008
By James N Simpson - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Sock Monster (Hardcover)
Glen Melenhorst and Sharon O'Connor's attempt to enter the already saturated sock monster titled children's picture book market (ie Simon and the Sock Monster, Flusi: The Sock Monster,Sid the Sock Eating Monster, The Sock Monsters and well I cold keep going on forever but lets stop now) hits and misses. Illustration wise, it's pretty good almost in a three dimension The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius style, the pictures alone will keep those who can't read words occupied. What lets it down though is the fact that the text it's written like a poorly written rap song (however this may well be fun for the extreme younger age child to watch you do but plain what embarrassing for those older than a year or two). Being that the authors are trying to rap, means that a lot of the verses inside seemed forced as they clearly struggled to think of anything better to rhyme with other words. Such as "What's wrong with socks? I hear you ask? As in their soft caress you bask." Now bask, caress, these aren't exactly words little kids are going to be that familiar with. The Sock Monster is a lot better book if you make up your own story to go with the illustrations. Unless it is going for one or two cents I'd give it a miss!
