I loved this program. I played the scenarios 4 or 5 times. Even though it is getting old, I still load it up every couple of years and play a round. It was a classic that I played a lot when it first came out. It had high rating from all the major gaming magazines - well worth the praise.There is also head to head with the computer. I don't think it supports Internet or networking, I can't remember for sure. Also know that there are a few games that are in the same universe. I think there are 4 in total but this was the first. I had to special order Homeworld 2 since it is out of print and played that a few times. The graphics are better but a little harder. Not sure if it is any better but after playing the second one, I wont be playing the first one again.

We love this game, I have two licenses so that my son and I can play cooperatively on the home network. This is one of the great all time R/T Strategy games. P.C. Gamer gave it it's "Game of the Year" award in 1999. It was games like Homeworld and Half-Life that really ignited my passion for gaming. It's story-line (which today's games rarely have) is compelling and it's game play is addictive.It has some faults (remember it's 10 years old). The controls and graphics are dated and the resource gathering can be exhaustive. But, if you want a great classic game on the cheap (it really plays on XP), I recommend this game highly. 6 of 8 people found the following review helpful

This game has some excellent features: graphics, music and an intelligent background story. The graphics of the ships being seen from 3-D perspective is awe inspiring.What I find frustrating with this game is that I feel the player doesn't catch a break-every scenario (up to now) is "do-or-die" with battles against what seem to be ever more powerful and advanced enemies. It would have been nice to have been able to explore planets, perhaps find hidden technologies or resources to advance the game. At this point, I am losing interest with yet another battle sequence-wish there was more strategy to go along with the action. |
