As impeccable as the previous two Solid Steel" Releases...., Oct 28 2003
This review is from: Solid Steel Presents Herbal (Audio CD)
The third in the "Solid Steel" mix series is easily as accomplished as "DJ Food & Dk's - Now Listen" & "Hexstatic's - Listen & Learn" exceptional mixes, with each episode in the series re-establishing itself as amongst the premier league in terms of broad appeal, but cutting and splicing together genres of music that (in theory) shouldn't work on a mix album. Cutting up the leftfield Trip-hop of: (Dj Food, The Herbaliser, Steinski), to the glorious funk/Hip-hop/Soul mash ups (Easy Access Orchestra, Carol Kaye, Peter Thomas Sound Orchestra), to the wonderfully bizarre (DeeeLite - Groove is in the Heart remix, Timezone - feat. John Lydon), this is the third in the "Solid Steel" mix that isn't afraid of 'Genre Hopping' and so long as you have a fairly eclectic ear (with this release especially focusing on 70's spy movie sound tracking and contemporary orchestra arrangements), this is easily as astonishing & Jaw dropping as previous efforts. And through the sheer quality & range of music on offer here...the Solid Steel series now possibly, has the honour of being amongst the finest series of mix albums within the Trip-hop genre, unquestionably recommended.
