4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Works Tutorial Dec 12 2008
By S. Andrew Baker III - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Perfect Paperback|Verified Purchase
As an experienced autocad teacher, I recently obtained SolidWorks software for use in my classroom. However, the commands and sequences were vastly different from what AutoCad uses. After looking for textbooks and tutorials, I found this book. It works great not only as a individual tutorial, but as a classroom asset as well.

The sequences and projects are well designed for beginners, and cover a vast range of information. This is a great classroom book! There are some areas which are not clear, and take some experimentation to make things work, but overall, it is a good text.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for the classroom or new user Feb. 11 2009
By James York - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Perfect Paperback
As a Mechanical engineer with over 21 years of various CAD experience - by far, SolidWorks is the most instinctive 3D Cad package available. The 2008 interface and feature improvements are vase.

Between the book, the multi-media CD and the online SW tutorials, my students create manufacturability into their models and final drawings for their term project with very little assistance from me or the lab TA's.

The book offers an outstanding solid foundation of the software in a step-by-step manner for students that need it. The book is highly illustrated to clearly enforce the modeling, assembly, and drawing procedures and design intent with good usage of dimensioning and geometric constraints.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful March 19 2008
By V. Kelly - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Perfect Paperback
This is the second SolidWorks book which I purchased from Amazon.com in the past month. As a new SolidWorks user, I'm looking for a book / books that provide insight and a general exposure to the User Interface and how to use, apply, edit and learn the software in context to an Engineering approach. This book does a great job in doing this.

The book spends time in describing the functions, features, and tools which are available in SolidWorks whiling creating useful models. The book also provides a systematic approach in teaching the user how to use the software. Throughout the chapters, the authors reiterate what was stated in the previous chapter. This is very helpful to the new user.

The book CD contains movie and model files to view and use. I highly recommend this book for any new SolidWorks user.
