4.0 out of 5 stars Not your average SolidWorks book, Nov 19 2009
By Mark Landsaat - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: SolidWorks Administration Bible (Paperback)
OK, before I start the real review of this book let me start by telling what this book is not.

-This book is not about modeling. If you are looking for a book about modeling this book is not for you.
-This book is not for beginners. The material in this book assumes you are very familiar with SolidWorks.

So it's not about modeling and its not for beginners. In my opinion This book is aimed at professional cad administrators, or power-users that manage their own SolidWorks installation.

This book is not written tutorial style, it's not taking you through setup details step by step. In my opinion this is more of a big picture book about cad administration and cad best practice. In fact a lot of the material covered in this book will transfer to other 3D modeling programs such as Inventor, Solid Edge and Pro-E.

Parts of the book that I liked.

-SolidWorks templates, why they are important, how to set them up and how to manage them.
-3D cad standards, why there are different from 2D and why you need them.
-SolidWorks settings, the book goes into a lot of detail regarding what system settings and document properties do.

The book is not exactly an easy read, but in my opinion the material covered is valuable for advanced users. If you are looking to improve your SolidWorks skills in areas that don't get used often and some of the darker corners of the software, this book will be a good addition to your SolidWorks library.
