Terrific Sound, Great New Songs,
This review is from: Some Girls (2CD) (Audio CD)
The reviews of this re-issue that I've read here and elsewhere concentrate on the original Some Girls album and not the new 2011 product.Like most people that will consider buying this new rendering, I'm already well aware of the original album's history, content and its merits and demerits. When it comes to re-issues and expanded versions of familiar music people need to know whether it is worth spending money on a revamped rendition of something that they likely already own or have heard thousands of times before. Well ... I've purchased the new deluxe edition of Some Girls and I'm very pleased to say that the re-mastered sound is terrific and the newly officially released songs on the bonus CD are great! If you are a Stones fan, do yourself a favour and buy the 2011 deluxe edition if only for the "new" songs.Unlike most of the bonus music that came with the re-issued versions of Exile on Main Street and Get Yer Ya's Ya's Out the additional songs here can stand on their own. The songs are rootsy, melodic, darkly humourous (Claudine), and grow on you with repeated listenings. It's too bad they didn't finish these songs in the 70's or couldn't release this bonus compilation then as the follow-up to Some Girls because the new songs are generally superior to the songs on Emotional Rescue. The bottom line is I'm glad to finally have these new songs and the crisper vibrant remastered sound of the 2011 version of Some Girls: It's a good product by a great band and well worth the price.

One Of The Greatest Rock and Roll Albums of All Time!!!!,
By
This review is from: Some Girls (2CD) (Audio CD)
This is one of the greatest albums of all time. The Stones were rocking with the weaving guitars and great guitar parts, Mick Jagger was singing as creatively as ever, Bill Wyman was making catchy bass parts as only he can do, and Charlie Watts was his usual quiet cool. Keith Richards never looked better than in this era as you can witness by his appearance on Some Girls Live In Texas. Great iconic cover artwork. One of the greatest record covers of all time. Let me tell you, they don't make great record cover artwork anymore. Nor do they make music this great anymore. It's got a little bit of everything in this record. But most importantly it rocks!!!!!! This is why they were so great!!!!!!!! Get this record in your collection if you are any kind of music fan!!!!!!!! If you don't have this, you are no music fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool stuff,
By Carl Slim (the factory) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Some Girls (Audio CD)
This is probably their biggest selling album. 10 songs, a Temptations cover and 9 originals: 2 non-descript punk-based tunes, the disco-esque "Miss You", classic rock standards "Beast Of Burden" and "Shattered", the beautifully offensive country tune "Far Away Eyes", Keith singing lead on the hard rocking "Before They Make Me Run", and generally a sloppy feel as Ron Wood and Mick Jagger play more of the guitar than normal. Few if any studio musicians make an appearance. "Some Girls" is a sort of laid back tune, more offensive lyrics here, and basically you have the Stones being themselves, and that is one cool sound. When they follow a trend, they always do it well, whether it's psychedelia ("2000 Light Years from Home") or grunge ("Love is Strong"), and that remains true on this one. Here they absorb Punk, Disco, and 70's Rock influences, and do them better than just about anyone. Irresistable.
