From Amazon

Crown Princess Laurentia is 25, a widow, and a virgin. Her first marriage was a nightmare, and she's not anxious to repeat the experience, but she must marry and produce an heir to the throne. King Jerome adores his daughter and summons suitors from far and near to compete for her hand, determined that she shall marry for love to a man worthy of her. Neither Laurentia nor the King could have anticipated that the man who would make her heart sing would be Dominic of Baminia, the mercenary and bastard brother of the king of neighboring Sereminia. Laurentia fights Dominic's overwhelming sensual pull, for he's much too handsome and she has cause to distrust handsome, powerful men. Meanwhile, Dominic has a dark agenda that honor insists he fulfill, but despite his better sense, he finds himself falling in love with the petite, courageous Princess. Will Laurentia be able to forgive Dom's betrayal? Will Dom discover before it's too late that it's love and not just lust that he feels for the Princess?

In this sequel to The Runaway Princess, Dodd pairs a hard-edged, handsome mercenary with a lovely, wise princess and makes the match not only believable but also completely enjoyable. Both fast-paced and adventurous with passion aplenty and a warm supporting cast--as well as a satisfyingly evil villain--this heartfelt historical will not disappoint. --Lois Faye Dyer

From Publishers Weekly

A bestselling author of historical romances, Dodd goes back to 19th-century European kingdoms Bertinierre and Sereminia (setting of The Runaway Princess) in this awkward fairy tale. Widowed Princess Laurentia needs a husband to ensure the succession to Bertinierre's throne, and suitors pour in from far and wide, including the mercenary fighter Dominic, illegitimate son of the last king of Baminia and the handsomest man in four kingdoms. Hired as Laurentia's bodyguard, while secretly in the pay of Bertinierre's chief foe, Dominic falls in love with the feisty princess and soon disavows his dirty dealings. The hot sex scenes and tantalizing romantic tension don't disappoint, but the story seems written in haste, with villains so transparent the reader will wonder at the collective royal IQ (perhaps the the result of too much inbreeding?). First Sentence
At the ball celebrating her twenty-fifth birthday, Crown Princess Laurentia scrutinized the leering, timid, swaggering, toe-dragging, eloquent, stuttering sea of black and white evening wear and though she had never seen such a pitiable pool of suitors in her life. Read the first page

4.0 out of 5 stars Still a good read despite hero, May 11 2004
This review is from: Someday My Prince (Mass Market Paperback)
Crown Princess Laurentia knew it was her duty to choose a suitable husband, in order to produce an heir to the throne of Bertinierre. But she had been down the matrimonial road once before, and it had been disastrous. Now at twenty-five, she is a widow, and still a virgin. Her father, King Jerome, has invited potential suitors from far and wide, hoping someone will capture his daughter's attention. He wants nothing more than love and happiness for her. Laurentia has found no one the least bit interesting, until she meets Prince Dominic.

Prince Domonic is the illegitimate brother of the king of neighboring Sereminia. Not only that, but he's a mercenary, and the black sheep of the family. Due to recent threats to the throne, Laurentia's father hires Dominic to protect his daughter from harm. But who will protect Laurentia from the undeniable desire Dominic elicits from her, despite her efforts to escape it? And will he prove to be the one love she has been searching for, or will his debt of honor end in betrayal of the beautiful princess?

This is the sequel to THE RUNAWAY PRINCESS which I've yet to read. While this was an enjoyable story, it wasn't one of my favorites by Ms. Dodd. Mostly due to the hero being rather harsh and brooding, with a hidden agenda of betrayal. From what I understand, Dominic was introduced in the first book, and he was far from nice in it. Laurentia is a likeable, intelligent, and strong willed heroine. There are moments of humor here and the love scenes are quite sensual. As for a recommendation, if you're a Dodd fan like me, I'd recommend reading this one. However, if you've never read anything by this author, I'd recommend beginning with the Governess Bride Series, or THAT SCANDALOUS EVENING, rather than this selection.

3.0 out of 5 stars good, but problems because of previous book, Dec 5 2003

People that have not read Chrisine Dodd will like this book, people who are her fans will have a bit of trouble with Prince Dominic (because of Runaway Princess - he was not NICE). The books really need to be read together, and when you do that, you come off disliking Dominic, so its jarring to have him suddenly presented as the hero. (Catherine Coutler did this in Chandra and the first of the Fire series - he was a total louse and suddenly he is hero in the next book.) It just makes it so hard to switch horses in mid-water.

Dodd's writing is always engaging and she sort of pulls it off, despite Dom's shady past. I enjoyed the book, but Dodd as done much better.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the Best Hero....but...., Aug 15 2003

This book was about average for Dodd. This is only the second book from her that I have not enjoyed the hero. It would be helpful to you to read "Runaway Princess" before reading this book. It explains the background of Dominic a little better than this novel.

Princess Laurentia is looking for a husband so that she can continue her royal line. Dominic declares himself first her suitor, and then her bodyguard after a blotched kidnapping attempt. This book centers around the time of Laurentia's birthday, with most of the story moving within this time frame. Ultimately, Dominic is after a "secret" from Laurentia in order to gain financial wealth, but ends up falling in love with her in the process.

SOMEDAY MY PRINCE does not have a lot of charm. I did like the heroine, Princess Laurentia. She came across in a much more pleasant manner than the hero. However, it was hard to believe that Laurentia would forgive Dominic so easier for his betrayal. Ultimately, this book is worth the read, but don't be surprised if you are a longtime Dodd fan, and are slightly disappointed.
