Book Description

A collection of the first four issues of the popular Lenore comic book series. Lenore: Noogies is a romp into the dark, surreal world of a little dead girl. Featuring stories about limbless cannibals, clock monsters, cursed vampire dolls, taxidermied friends and obssesed would be lover and more fuzzy animal mutilations than should be legal. Lenore is one of the funniest, darkest comic books on the marketplace today.

From the Publisher

The author of two other books; Something at the Window is Scratching and the Monsters in my Tummy, Roman Dirge has carved a niche for himself as one of the masters of dark humor. The Monsters in my Tummy comes straight from the heart and is Mr. Dirge's best work to date.

2.0 out of 5 stars Piggies! I meant piggies...., May 11 2004

That's the entertaining part of this book, searching for the hidden piggies. Not bunnies, as I mistakenly mentioned earlier. Carry on.

2.0 out of 5 stars Trying too hard to be funny, May 11 2004

This review is from: Something At The Window Is Scratching (Paperback)
This book is my first experience with Roman Dirge, and it will probably be my last. I collect children's books, mainly off-beat ones, so this book caught my attention. But after reading through it, the only feeling I get from it is something similar to a stand-up comdedian trying his hardest to make people laugh. Do you know what I mean? For some people it just comes naturally to be funny or creepy, but Mr. Dirge is simply trying too hard. The illustrations are ok...just ok. But honestly, I wish I could trade this book in for something by Gris Grimly. The highlight of this book is searching for the hidden bunnies.

1.0 out of 5 stars Your not Silverstein Mr. Dirge., Sep 8 2003
By
Lane Fox (Huntsville, AL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Something At The Window Is Scratching (Paperback)
Roman Dirge has never impressed me as a writer or artist. I always try to keep the hope of evolving in my mind when I read any latest work of a writer, I think I am to keep on hoping for Mr. Dirge. Dirge has been a popular cult figure in the "dark comics" scene. This work is hardly a comic as it is more a short story book. Let me stress the short part of that statement. There is really nothing much here to read. The entire book can consume a good 5 to 10 minutes of your time. I found looking for the hidden pigs more entertaining then reading it. I also feel Roman Dirge tries to play himself off as a modern Shel Silverstein and hopefully the only person convinced he is good at it is himself and his mindless drone followers. While it has always been popular to attack subculture icons because it makes such easy criticism, I feel justified in my statements because this work lacks any artistic merit and it simply doesn't deliver for the price. Sorry Dirge maybe next time.
