Product Description

From Amazon.com

It's quite extraordinary how Natacha Atlas can seamlessly combine so many languages and genres. On Something Dangerous, while singing in Arabic, Hindi, English and French, she draws her musical backing from drum & bass, Parisian vaudeville, R&B, ambient dance, pop, rap and film music, and never once do her sonic movements feel remotely gratuitous. Indeed, every track here is of the highest quality. In this, she's undoubtedly aided by a stellar guest list. Atlas is more than ready to step back and leave room for a love-hungry rap from Princess Julianna ("Just like a Dream"), some punchy positivist soul from Niara Scarlett ("Who's My Baby") and an insistent lament from Sinead O'Connor ("Simple Heart"). Add to these the grand orchestrations of Jocelyn Pook, the wacky Gem keyboards of Gamal Awad and the mournful trumpet of the late Sami El Babli, plus the efforts of Jah Wobble, Count Dubulah and Transglobal Underground and you have a collection that never veers from the classy. As a round-the-world excursion, Something Dangerous has more in common with Peter Gabriel at his coffee-table easiest than with the wild wanderings of Kate Bush. Nevertheless, for those who like their chill-out music to rise above the bland, there's much here to enjoy. --Dominic Wills

Chronique amazon.fr

--Sabrina Silamo

4.0 out of 5 stars Just as good, just different., Jun 5 2004
This review is from: Something Dangerous (Audio CD)
The album may be very different than all the others, but it is played over and over just as all the others have and I've owned it about a year now; I can always rely on this artists albums to be a great listen. Natacha Atlas must know she has pretty steady & loyal following in the U.S., but none of her past albums were accomondating if you will in that it was more about the enchantment of the arabic style then about the lyrics, at least for me because I don't speak or understand arabic. One of her albums goes so far as to offer the translation of the arabic lyrics which made the album all the more meaningful to me.

I am a fan of this album given that the artist is choosing to try and diverge her style with a little R&B, bring in a few guest vocals, and try something risky, be a little different; which every artist is entitled to do. Her contributions to transglobal underground have been astounding and I have enjoyed every album, each is different. I strongly recommend this album and all the others.

This is the first Natacha Atlas album I bought and I like it much. It's oriental pop music and if you like Ofra Haza or Sertab, then you might like this album too. It makes me wanna buy more Natacha music :)

1.0 out of 5 stars Another Talented Singer Bites The Dust, Feb 23 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Something Dangerous (Audio CD)
The never-ending attack of McMusic and McCulture have claimed another victim. Atlas used to be an interesting blend of Middle Eastern grooves and Techno beats. Now, she has merged with that boring R&B pseudo-cool trash that is force-fed to the denizens of McWorld in every chain-store, fast-food eatery, and McParty in the West. Too bad, Ms. Atlas, you used to be interesting, but now, you are dull as dish water.
