Product Description

Product Description

Out of print in the U.S.! Import pressing of this 1995 ballads collection from the Pop/Dance diva, which focuses on her sentimental side. Something To Believe in is a must-have for fans since it contains three new tracks plus two tracks previously unavailable on her albums ('This Used To Be My Playground' and 'I'll Remember'). 14 tracks total. Warner.

It didn't take the post-motherhood Ray of Light to prove that Madonna is a big softie; this collection of ballads and slow jams had already done that. Somewhat confused in intention--the scalding ache of "Oh Father", a 1989 song for her own dad, is shoved between the sex of "Rain" and a version of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You"--this is nonetheless a highly listenable album for those who dig Madonna for her music as much as for her cultural significance. --Rickey Wright

By 1996, much had been made about Madonna the celebrity, but little is said about Madonna the artist. While some of her songs remain some of the greatest pop records ever, many people tended to focus on her "SEX" book and her risque stage antics than her music. Many people never realized her sensitive, loving side. In 1996, she decided it was time to do it. So what better to release a collection of ballads? "Something To Remember" was the result, and it was truly memorable.
This cd has some of Madonna's finest ballads and biggest hits from the 1980s' and 1990s'; "Take A Bow" (her biggest hit ever with 7 weeks at number one), the chilling "Live To Tell", the captivating "Take A Bow" sequel "You'll See" and of course, the classic, timeless "Crazy For You". This song was all the rage at high school dances in 1985. Also, Madonna recorded new songs like the pretty "Forbidden Love" and the eerie cover of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You". The album's title track (originally from the "Dick Tracy" soundtrack) is among Madonna's best works.
The reason I gave this cd 4.9 stars rather than the full 5 stars is because there are several songs I would have loved to have seen on this collection. For instance, I would have loed if "Cherish" was included. This is possibly Madonna's purest love song, a celebraion of love power. And while it's a great dance song, "Like A Prayer" is in the same vein. There are plenty of other songs here I could list but it would take up to much space.
Overall, a worthwhile collection of Madonna love songs. Let's hope she releases a volume 2 of her ballads. These songs are among her best, and let's hope she makes more like them.

An amazing album by Madonna, filled with a collection of slower tunes/ballads by her. Also included are some new tracks never heard, or remixed, which truy make this album special.
Some standouts include:
"I want you", a remixed song of Marvin Gaye, done with Massive Attack, who made this track absolutely awesome!!!! 10/10
"I'll remember", the theme from the movie "With Honors". Really nice song 9/10
"You'll see", a great slow song, kinda similar feel to it as "take a Bow" 8/10 (Also check out the fast version which is great)
"This Used to be my playground", theme from "A League of their own", slow, sad song, but nice. 8/10
"Love don't live here anymore" - a remake of the song she did in the 80's, however this version is a remix, and if u take the time to listen u'll hear the different beats from the original, and will really like it 8/10
Forbidden love - pretty song 9/10
Oh Father - check out "Like a Prayer" album for reviews 9/10

This is one of those works by Madonna that gets over looked for some reason. Call it another "greatest hits" with a twist. Madonna puts forth an album with ballads that are not so much the love songs as we're used but are songs about love. Whether it's romantic love gone wrong as with "You'll See," the love that exists between fathers and daughters in "Oh Father," or diminishing love as featured in "This Used to be My Playground," Madonna sets aside an album to reveal her more intimate side. While it may be somewhat of a shocker from a woman who put out albums entitled "Bedtime Stories" and "Erotica" and has been seen rolling around a stage singing 'Like a Virgin,' Madonna truly is amazing on this CD.
There were new tracks such as "You'll See," "Take a Bow" and "I Want You," they go well with tracks that have been popular in the past. This is one of the few CDs you'll be able to find her "This Used to be My Playground" from the movie 'A League of Their Own.' This CD also has a remixed version of "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" which is beyond excellent. It's moving, sweeping, the drums and sounds in the background give you a sense of longing as well as anger over a lost love. There is also a second version of "I Want You" done with an orchestra. This was one of the best tracks in my opinion. It has Madonna showing off her vocals. She gives a sense of haunting, hurt and a mix of emotions that leaves you with an odd feeling.
While this could be counted as a "best of" collection, it stands out on its own as a collection of Madonna showing off her sensitive side. She re-invents herself here, stripping down the sexed-up pop singer we knew from the early 90s. Here she settles down which actually works for her.

This Collection of Madonna's greatest ballads, is by far one of the greatest collections of popular music ever made.
It dives into the future ( at the time ) of Madonna's upcoming career paths and choices with the new songs , I Want You , You'll See, and One More Chance. Which are all just superb and contain some of her best vocals to date , yes, even this date in 2004. It also gives us the Madonna hits from the 80's , Crazy For You, Live To Tell, and a newly re-vamped version of the yet unreleased song Love Don't Live Here Anymore. Which at this sets release , was finally released as a single and a video. Although it did not chart particularly well, it was still so nice for any true fan to have this song released and made into a video. I find this collection to be still one of the most played CD's i own by Madonna. Each Song is a Masterpiece....especially the most magnifecent song of her career You'll See, by far my favorite song by her. In a world full of great songs by many artists , and so many wonderful Madonna songs to choose from. You'll See is just an astonshing piece of pop perfection, and co-produced with the great David Foster. If you are looking for an awesome Madonna collection. I hope you will not be disappointed , and you should'nt be, If you choose Something to Remember.
