5.0 out of 5 stars THIS MUSIC MAKES ME FLOAT! Jun 15 2000
Format:Audio CD
Of Bach's twenty kids, CPE was no slouch, musically, and had quite a romantic bent. These Sonatas for Flute and Harpsichord, as recorded on this CD, will whisk you away. I say "as recorded on this CD" for a good reason: the sound quality is so... ethereal... that it simply mesmerizes and transports one. The music, not at all staid in the standard baroque manner (no slur intended to Papa Bach), is quite forward-looking and warm. It's a sunny CD for a beautiful day, or a perfect CD for kicking back during an afternoon rain... perhaps with some good red vino and your best girl kicking back with you. Ah, the glories of CPE's music! And the melodies. And the sound Naxos gives us in this beautiful recording.... all of this for us to revel in. For the little money it takes to feel THIS good, buy this CD and, well, FEEL GOOD. Cripes! Life's hard enough as it is. This is a simple, affordable pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful 18th century chamber music May 17 2013

Unfortunately, these sonatas for flute and harpsichord by C.P.E. Bach are seldom recorded and are usually performed on weak-sounding period instruments. But that's not the case here. The modern flute and harpsichord used for this recording sound great and they are perfectly balanced with each other, so one instrument doesn't overpower the other.

These sonatas are not just pleasant-sounding background music, although they may have originally served that purpose. They have substance to them and can be listened to again and again with pleasure. I would definitely recommend this CD for fans of 18th century chamber music.

5.0 out of 5 stars C.P.E. Bach Dec 28 2009

I do not know these pieces well and have only heard music by this son of the illustrious father occasionally throughout my life. I like them and find them entertaining in a "light" sort of fashion. I bought them recently and have only listened to them once..so, not ready to form an opinion as yet. As to the quality of the recordings, however, top notch. Glad to have them in my collection and am sure the father is smiling down on them (proudly).
