3.0 out of 5 stars Great album-average mix Oct 12 2006
Format:Audio CD
In my opinion this is the most underrated DM album. I always thought that Martin Gore may have hit his peak as a song writer on Songs of Faith and Devotion, but the album was mired in the well-documented negativity that began during the recording process: David Gahan's heroin use, Alan Wilder wanting out, and Fletch's inability to hold everyone together. That all said, the songs ARE great. When I heard that this was being released in the same high definition 96k DTS 5.1 mix that made the recent Violator and Music for the Masses re-releases so amazing, I immediately snapped it up. But I am sad to say that the 5.1 mix lacks the astonishing clarity of the previous re-releases. the bass is heavy and muddy. As a result, the the vocals, keys and drum parts are at times buried in the mix. Often the surround speakers are not used at all! There is also far less imaginative use of the multichannels...often the rears are just used for "echo" of the mains. Sometimes the bvox are positioned in the rear, sometimes they're just in stereo. I really hoped that they would have spent more time taking the complex mix of this album and presenting it in an exciting way (like they did on the previous surround mixes). It's a shame and a missed opportunity to re-present these great songs to the world in a fresh way.

5.0 out of 5 stars What can I say... Jun 16 2004
Format:Audio CD
What really IS there to say? This album is truly amazing. Everyone has their fav DM album, at the same time i don't truly understand why a lot of DM fans HATE this album. I like the fact that the band wanted to create the music to "force" Dave's voice to sound more powerful and melodic despite the heroin addiction really messing up his voice. In some ways the raspy voice in some parts compliments the mood of the album.

I Feel You- Great start.

Walking In My Shoes- Probably one of the best DM singles imo

Condemnation- wow. dave sounds painful in this one

Mercy In You- guitar riffs are awesome, ok song.

Judas- beautiful

In Your Room- I actually like the singles version more but it's still pretty good

Get Right With Me- eh..it's aight i guess

Rush- This song kicks

One Caress- Martin has a great voice, love the song

Higher Love- this song is uplifting to me...love it

BUY This album!! If you're open about music then sit and listen to this!!
