Amazon.ca Product Description

The personal DVD creation software for professional-quality film productions at home!

From Amazon.ca

If you have a stack of home videos on VHS or camcorder tapes, you'll already know how difficult it can be to find a package to help transfer your precious memories to DVD. Adaptec's Sonic MyDVD Video Suite 4.0 does just that, and with an interesting addition too.

Perhaps the most impressive feature of Sonic MyDVD Video Suite 4.0 is its ability to capture straight to disc. On fast machines, provided the VCR or camcorder is connected using a suitable capture device (not included) it's possible to hit the play button and have the software transfer your tape contents straight through to the DVD saving huge amounts of time--the results are pretty good too.

The bundled Showbiz video editing software is a little basic but good enough for fairly straightforward tape-to-disc transfers. Adaptec have thoughtfully included a utility that will allow you to create disc-based slideshows of your digital image collection so TV viewing of still images is quick and easy to organise. --Chris Russell

3.0 out of 5 stars Crashes too much. March 4 2004
By J. W.
When I select an MPEG-2 file to import (for DVD creation), the program immediately crashes (and messes with my MPEG-2 codec, so the codec needs to be re-installed). So I restart the program, open the folder containing MPEG-2 files, and before I even select the file the program crashes again!
At first I had MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files in the same folder, so I had to separate them in order to use the MPEG-1 files to create a VCD. MPEG-2 is still too much for MyDVD to handle.
Got this as a bundled program with Screenblast Movie Studio. While Movie Studio has worked out so far, MyDVD is far from meeting any expectations. I can understand if the program is hard to use, has bad interfaces, and does not create great DVD menus, etc., but for it to crash just because I opened a folder with MPEG-2 files in it is beyond my comprehension.

1.0 out of 5 stars buggiest software i have ever bought May 3 2003
By A Customer
it hangs or crashes every time i use it. the slideshow feature seems to be totally broken. when it does work, the video quality is roughly on par with a [less expensive]analog camcorder.
it looks like sonic has an update on their website which may fix some of these problems. unfortunately, their product registration website is also broken so I can't download anything.
mydvd 4 == total waste of [money].

1.0 out of 5 stars Completely broken June 20 2003
By A Customer
Shame on me for not reaqding reviews from other users before buying. This software is completely broken, and there is no fix in sight. There are updates for MyDVD on the Sonic site, but these updates don't support the Adaptec version.
I've had MyDVD try to make a DVD three times, each time I let it run all night, and each time in the morning it was still in the "Building Menus" stage.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless May 9 2004
I managed to capture 1 video clip. Now it hangs everytime I try to get another one. I cannot even kill the process. I have to reboot.
Absolutely worthless. I cannot believe Iomega bundles this garbage with their DVD burning hardware.
Don't buy it, do not waste your money. And don't buy Iomega products that bundle it either.
