Twisted Metal is an over-the-top, vehicular combat game exclusively for play on PlayStation 3. Gameplay revolves around demolition derby style action set across multiple maps in which last contestant alive receives virtually whatever they desire. The game contains both an engrossing single player campaign story mode, as well as multiplayer modes which support co-op and 4-player action locally, as well as 16-player support online. Additional features include: returning characters from earlier releases in the game franchise, 17 vehicles that can be customized with a wide variety of weapons, destructible game environments and more.

Twisted Metal returns with unhinged car combat destruction and action movie mayhem. A PlayStation franchise exclusive since the release of the original Twisted Metal game back in 1995 for PS1, this most recent release is packed with unique weapons that emerge from demonic vehicles as players unfold the demented tale of a cast of characters, led by Sweet Tooth in story, co-op and online modes. The mayhem is ratcheted up in multiplayer modes with 2-4 player competing locally and up to 16 players online competing in a killer-take-all back and forth battle royale on wheels.

Worst in the series,
Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars

The worst game in the series. If you are looking for online only then this may be your game since it appears to be designed for online.Single player is no longer select a character and play their story line. Now it is select a team and then any vehicle type you want (ex: Sweet Tooth's posse can drive the Axel wheel, or Outlaw's truck), but there are only 3 choices for characters and the story is so juvenile it's embarrassing. I found the mechanics stiff and unresponsive. I had a few other people try it out just to make sure it wasn't me. All 4 of them agreed that it sucked. I'm glad I received the code for Twisted Metal Black since that was the only good thing here. I actually traded this game in...which is something I never do. I keep every game I buy, but I did not want to keep this in my collection and I felt I should get the most from it before the inevitable price drop. There is a review on gamefaqs that rates this game a 5/10. I recommend you read it before purchasing because I agree with most of what the review has to say.

Not Bad,

Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars

I know my title isn't exactly glowing praise, but it's what the game deserves.I've played most of the Twisted Metal games, and the new one is pretty faithful. The levels are large and full of neat gimmicks and destructible scenery. There are plenty of cares to pick from, and each one looks unique. I say each one looks unique because I felt the special weapons were somewhat bland. I blame the choice to give each car two specials; they clearly ran out of ideas. But most importantly the game is pretty fun. You can team up with a friend and tackle the multiplayer, and to me that's what Twisted Metal was always about. As for the campaign... I have mixed feelings. The writing is pretty bad, which is kind of expected. I mean it's a staple that Calypso screws over each wish, but the wishes were so idiotically worded; it wasn't even a surprise how the characters got screwed over. Also the inclusion of multi-phase boss fights was a bad idea. No one enjoys fighting a boss that dies and gets right back up for another round. It's boring, and out of place for this game. And finally the game includes actual races in the campaign. This is even more out of place. The computers will kamikaze your butt, just to assure the one speedy computer wins the race. These were just not fun. So if you're a fan of the original, and really need a game, it's not bad. Not great, but you could do a lot worse.

How the mighty have fallen.,
Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Twisted Metal (Video Game)
I came into this game with incredibly high hopes, that was my first problem. This game was one of the biggest let downs I've ever had, the campaign is boring, unfair and might I say sloppy. Multiplayer is massively unbalanced and I just can't seem to have fun at all with this game. It's being oh so highly praised by gaming sites but I really don't see why. I thought this was going to be more like the Playstation1 Twisted Metal that I know and love but I was way off. If you want a real Twisted metal game you are far better off picking up Twisted Metal Black or Twisted Metal for the PS1. I give this game 4 out of 10.
