For example in GTA 5, when your wanted level is up and you have the Police after you, it flashes Red and Blue! Pretty neat.
They also added in a mini speaker that is also integrated with most games.
For example, when playing games such as Black Ops 3 it alerts you when enemies destroy your UAV.
Here are the remaining pros and cons of the controller.
While they added a 3.5mm headphone jack output, you can use just about any set of headphones with the controller. This is also lacking, Sony for some reason did not integrate many headphones that have built in microphones (for use in online multi-player games).
Two years later after launch, the System still has not been patched to use Bluetooth headset/microphone combos (can't blame the controller though).. Get with it Sony. It's almost 2016!
Lastly, another slight con noted with the DS4 is that the battery life has taken a serious hit when compared to the DS3. Obviously with a LED bar (Dimmable) and Speaker system (Can't be disabled) it was bound to happen. Dimming the light bar will gain you a little bit of extra game time, however it will never compare to the DS3!
All in all, it's still a great controller. Price point is pretty high, get it on sale on major shopping days.
These controllers feel much better in your hand vs the PS3 controllers. They're larger, making it perfect for (most) adult hands. The battery life varies depending on the game. On average, I've gotten 7-8 hours out of the batteries with the LED light set to dim. That's a short span of time considering my PS3 controllers get closer to double that, if not more. So when buying a system, a second contoller is a requirement unless you have long USB cables and don't mind the cable mess.
Since purchasing my "day one" system, these are the games I actively play or have played: Lego Marvel Super Heroes, Lego Batman 3, WWE 2K15, Lego The Hobbit and Dragon Age Inquisition. That's it; I like to platinum games so they last a little longer. It really isn't a lot of wear and tear, but recently (the last few months) something started to happen...
It may not happen now, next week or next month but EVENTUALLY the rubber on your R thumb pads are going to come off. Do yourself a huge favor and buy some thumb grips for your controllers. If too much coating has come off an R pad, a grip won't have anything to hang onto.
This is what I've been using, and they've worked perfectly: http://www.amazon.ca/Silicone-Controller-PS4-Accessories-Replacement/dp/B00LZIBKHS/
So you've spent $60 or more dollars on one of these, and the rubber comes off? It's time for drink! because this is depressing. My 5-6 year old PS3 controllers operate like new and they've taken so much more abuse! I don't get it. In any case, I thought I should warn you all. Overall this is (obviously) recommended; what other choice is there?Read more ›
Triggers are great. Sticks have been tightened and feel accurate. The weight feels great, its not as heavy as the Xbox 360 controller, but more than the DualShock 3.
Personally, I feel this is the best controller on the market.
The cost does seem a little high, but it's rechargeable so you won't need batteries or need to buy a rechargeable battery pack. Controller uses a standard microUSB for charging.
Battery drains so fast (you'll probably have to buy another controller if you want to play wireless)
Also I've heard that the thumbs sticks wear off fast, but mines are ok since I've decided to buy thumbsticks protector to limit the damage (highly recommended for first year buyers since Sony dealt with this issue)
