I've never been able to get the play station to work as a DVD player, that is a disappointment, since I get sick of having so many wires in my entertainment unit, and it would have been nice to have one machine that performs three functions. (It plays Cd's quite nicely). That aside, It's a wonder machine that plays not only the new Playstation 2 games, but the older Playstation 1. (who wants to render all of their older games as obsolete?) Even though it would have been nice to use it as a DVD player, and I can't, it is a good machine and well worth the little that it costs. (But beware. . .Playstation makes up for the small cost by charging an arm and then some for the games.)

My personal belief on the PS2 is that it has better graphics and game selection the either Xbox or Gamecube. I'm not here to diss the Xbox and Gamecube; I'm just here to state the qualities of the PS2 (the product) amazon is selling. I mean if you want the widest selection of sports games (Winning Eleven 6 & 7, NFL Street, or Gran Turismo 3: A Spec.), Strategy & Adeventure Games (Medal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy X), and Online Games (Twisted Metal Black & Medal of Honor: Front Line); all with GREAT graphics and some of the top games throughout the world then the PS2 is for you. But if you want the old fashion Mario Brothers Games and Acrade Simulated Games then I'd guess the PS2 wouldn't be your type of Console; maybe you people should move to less exciting and intense console like the Xbox or Gamecube. Once again I'm not here to create hype I am just here to thank Amazon for selling such a great product that opened my eyes to so much more than uneventful cartoon images like on many of the Game Consoles today!

I am gonna compare the three consoles.
Graphics- PS2-128 bit graphics
NGC-150-somthing bit graphics
XB-228 bit or something like that
I don't know what bits are, but the more there is the better the graphics. PS2 loses this one. X-Box wins this one. GC is in the middle.
Games-PS2 can play thousands of games(including PS1 games) and there are games for people of all ages.
GC Most games are between E and T. Not much M-rated games. Most games are made by Nintendo, Which has a lot of game-making experience.
XB Most of its games suck, but when a good one comes out, it is really, really good. A lot of T-M rated games.
PS2 wins this one, for having games for all ages. X-box and GC are tied.
Controlers-PS2 has a comfortable controler with easy to find buttons.
GC has the most comfortable controler, but has 4 less buttons than XB and PS2, which makesgames that came out on all systems have bad controls on the GC version.
XB-I found this controler just as comfortable as PS2. The two shoulder buttons make racing games feel more realistic.
PS2 and XB tie in this one, GC loses.
Online- PS2- a pretty good amount of online games, but you need a $40 network adapter for them.
GC- has only one online game. I'm not sure if they're making any more.
XB- No extra hardware needed, most games have an online feature.
XB wins this one, PS2 in second GC shouldn't even have been entered in this one.
Memory card-PS2- most games don't use much memory, some use a ton of memory, I had PS2 for 5 years, and I only needed two memory cards.
GC- most games don't use much memory, and the memory card doesn't hold much either.
XB- I have no clue.

I hope this help's.
I recently got a PS2 console, i've always been a PC game freak, but i had to get the PS2. The xbox got in my mind (it has the best graphics when you compare them to the PS2 and GC) but the games i get in the xbox i can get them on my PC so if you play games on your PC, "DONT GET A XBOX", you'll be wasting your money. The PS2 has a lot of great games (really cool ones).
Its a simple matter of what you want, and things you should know:
1) If you have a PC dont get a xbox (PC graphics are better, almost every games is on the PC.)
2) No PC, like knew tittles, and cool ones, get a PS2.
3) Buying a Game Cube if your not a kid is like buying a DAEWOO (Korean car). If your 12 or lower you might like it.
4) From 1 to 10 (1=bad 10=good=PC Quality) PS2 vs. xbox (xbox graphics=9 games=7 tittles=3) (PS2 graphics=8 games=9 tittles=8).
5)PS2 has a slower processor than the xbox.
6)Every cool game is made for the PS2. All games made by sony you wont find nowere else.
7) PS2 is smaller than the xbox. PS2 has more accessories.
8)If your a racing fan get a PS2, if you like FPS games get a PS2, if you like RPG get xbox or PS2, if you like sports games get a PS2 or xbox, like kids games get a GC, like simulation games dont get any of them, if you like strategic games get a PS2 or xbox, if you like all kinds of games get a PS2 (more tittles), dont know what you like get a PS2.
I've have seen the xbox and PS2, theres not that much of a difference in graphics (the xbox is better somehow), if you really care about the graphics get a PC.
Trust me on this one, i'm 29 years old and PS2 is the best console out there for your money.
