I've never been able to get the play station to work as a DVD player, that is a disappointment, since I get sick of having so many wires in my entertainment unit, and it would have been nice to have one machine that performs three functions. (It plays Cd's quite nicely). That aside, It's a wonder machine that plays not only the new Playstation 2 games, but the older Playstation 1. (who wants to render all of their older games as obsolete?) Even though it would have been nice to use it as a DVD player, and I can't, it is a good machine and well worth the little that it costs. (But beware. . .Playstation makes up for the small cost by charging an arm and then some for the games.)

My personal belief on the PS2 is that it has better graphics and game selection the either Xbox or Gamecube. I'm not here to diss the Xbox and Gamecube; I'm just here to state the qualities of the PS2 (the product) amazon is selling. I mean if you want the widest selection of sports games (Winning Eleven 6 & 7, NFL Street, or Gran Turismo 3: A Spec.), Strategy & Adeventure Games (Medal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy X), and Online Games (Twisted Metal Black & Medal of Honor: Front Line); all with GREAT graphics and some of the top games throughout the world then the PS2 is for you. But if you want the old fashion Mario Brothers Games and Acrade Simulated Games then I'd guess the PS2 wouldn't be your type of Console; maybe you people should move to less exciting and intense console like the Xbox or Gamecube. Once again I'm not here to create hype I am just here to thank Amazon for selling such a great product that opened my eyes to so much more than uneventful cartoon images like on many of the Game Consoles today!

I hope this help's.
I recently got a PS2 console, i've always been a PC game freak, but i had to get the PS2. The xbox got in my mind (it has the best graphics when you compare them to the PS2 and GC) but the games i get in the xbox i can get them on my PC so if you play games on your PC, "DONT GET A XBOX", you'll be wasting your money. The PS2 has a lot of great games (really cool ones).
Its a simple matter of what you want, and things you should know:
1) If you have a PC dont get a xbox (PC graphics are better, almost every games is on the PC.)
2) No PC, like knew tittles, and cool ones, get a PS2.
3) Buying a Game Cube if your not a kid is like buying a DAEWOO (Korean car). If your 12 or lower you might like it.
4) From 1 to 10 (1=bad 10=good=PC Quality) PS2 vs. xbox (xbox graphics=9 games=7 tittles=3) (PS2 graphics=8 games=9 tittles=8).
5)PS2 has a slower processor than the xbox.
6)Every cool game is made for the PS2. All games made by sony you wont find nowere else.
7) PS2 is smaller than the xbox. PS2 has more accessories.
8)If your a racing fan get a PS2, if you like FPS games get a PS2, if you like RPG get xbox or PS2, if you like sports games get a PS2 or xbox, like kids games get a GC, like simulation games dont get any of them, if you like strategic games get a PS2 or xbox, if you like all kinds of games get a PS2 (more tittles), dont know what you like get a PS2.
I've have seen the xbox and PS2, theres not that much of a difference in graphics (the xbox is better somehow), if you really care about the graphics get a PC.
Trust me on this one, i'm 29 years old and PS2 is the best console out there for your money.

Back in '95 when Playstation was released, it was the coolest thing to date. Lighting fast gameplay, sharp graphics, it couldn't get any better. Then, here comes PS2. Even better gameplay, graphics, and features. I've had my PS2 since 2001. It worked fine unti mid-2002. Then I started to get the usual disc-read error, and now, even a brand new game takes ages to get to work. As far as I know, Playstation 2 is a waste of money. At first I thought it was just my unit, but everyone I know has some kind of PS2 trouble. I'm not blowing it out proportion either, EVERYBODY PS2 that I've heard of had malfunctioned at least two years after it's shelf birthdate and purchase. It's not just PS2 either, pretty much anything Sony sucks these days. I doubt I'll be purchasing a PS3 since every PS1 and PS2 I have heard of has malfunctioned way too soon. Disc read errors happening in five years, maybe, but two, even one year for most! NO way. Besides these big negatives, PS2 is beautiful and has some great games and an awesome emotion system. If only the units were good quality, then it'd be a 5/5 system.

The PS2, I think is the best system overall of the three. All of the 3 systems are pretty good, but I think this one is the best.
Graphics/Controller 8/10
The X-Box has the best graphics- I played GTA:VC on both XBox and PS2 and I noticed that the graphics were way better on XBox-waaay less choppy; like the fire on XBox was really realistic. On PS2 it looks like cardboard in a low budget movie. Gamecube graphics are the worst of three, but they're still prtetty close together. Otherwise I think the XBox controller is bulky and the buttons are confusing... kind of spread out everywhere; GC is similair but I think much better than XBox (Also GC has the BEST wireless controller; The PS2 wireless controller by Lynx is terrible and if you're playing driving games it messes you up because it doesn't get the accelerate signal well and you go really slow). On PS2 the buttons are all close together and you're not forced to use the analog stick (on both XBox and GC the D-Pad is almost out of reach).
Games 9/10
PS2 has the best games. It has the best sports games and all of the other games are great too. Also don't forget the other thousands of games you can play from PS1... this is especially great for the Final Fantasy Series. GC lacks in games... they obsess over Mario games, which are fun, but should really be making more than that. XBox has a few good games... they also have good ones PS2 don't and visa versa... that's why it's a 9.
Memory Cards 7/10
I'm not a big fan for this sytem. But it does allow you to let your friend borrow your memory card or copy from it (in case they're too lazy to beat a game and wanna cut to the chase). It's not bad... but does get expensive... memory cards are 20 bucks. Kind of good... kind of bad in this area.
