About the Author

I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again originated as the Cambridge University Footlights show Cambridge Circus. The show's title came from a phrase commonly used by BBC newsreaders after a stumble or mistake, and established the series' irreverent tone. It was first broadcast on the BBC Home Service in 1964 (subsequent series were broadcast on the BBC Light Programme). The cast included Tim Brooke-Taylor, John Cleese, Graeme Garden, David Hatch, Jo Kendall and Bill Oddie and it was produced by Humphrey Barclay. Music was provided by Dave Lee and his band. The series came to an end in 1973, but was hugely influential - members of the cast would go on to hit shows The Goodies, Monty Python's Flying Circus and the beloved 'antidote to panel games', Radio 4's long-running I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue.

The last of its kind: Prune Tune Radio April 22 2013

I'm Sorry I'll Read that Again, or ISIRTA to its fans was a 70's British radio show. Staring the future Monty Python John "Otto" Cleese and four other young Brit comics - well five if you allow Jo Kindle who was only in your imagination. It is elsewhere listed as a "Pie in your face" program. The theory was that if delivered fast enough bad jokes, terrible puns and obvious sound effects, would have you too busy reacting to the last joke to be aware that it was a huge fun bamboozle.

When I originally heard the broadcasts I could never remember the jokes because I was usually enjoying the show too much and it came at you so fast.

This CD is taken from a, and I quote: "facsmile edition of the original 1978 LP of comedy sketches." I am not sure what that means but this is not the best of Angus Prune Tune material. Not present are any segments of the Curse of the Flying Wombat, although the voice of Lady Constance De' Coverlet makes a brief appearance. Nor is there one of the show's signature, I'm Sorry I'll Read that Again blown lines.
So be it. Amazon does list a few other recordings available but they are collator priced or not on CD. Meaning that this bit o `Brit comedy is an endangered specie.

There is just enough fun in this one hour of material to help you remember or at least sample the madness that was. So (in my best radio fund raiser voice) Please buy this CD and maybe Tinkerbelle will Live Again! Or failing to save Tinkerbelle, maybe the money men will re issue the other material...
